Has any one used a Actron Scan Tool? It will only display and erase codes but claims to work with all OBD II( 1996 > ). Auto Zone carries them and about to buy one.
I did a lot of research before I bought a scanner and settled on an AutoXray. They sell one basic unit that can be configured the way you want it (OBD-I, OBD-II, both, or with various manufacturer enhanced OBD-II, etc. ) It can also be upgraded by programming a factory code that unlocks the desired mode should you need it later or by downloading a program or update from their website (with optional software and cable). I paid about 350. 00 for the full blown, all inclusive model from a local parts store.
I have a 96 12V and can read/reset codes and get limited info from the PCM. I have tried it on a 24V and was able to access more info. The company is working on a Chrysler Enhanced upgrade that may allow more PCM info to be read. Above all, I have been impressed with the top-notch service from this company.
Check out their site http://www.autoxray.com. There are a couple of PDF downloads of good comparison reports that include the Actron unit as well as the usual high-dollar scanners.
