Does the adapter plate usually have a gasket? I think I foound the torque specs on here to be 44 ft. lbs. I can't tell if there was supposed to be a gasket. The kit I bought is missing a couple. Also, does the timing cover take a gasket, or just use silicone?

If I remember correctly there is no gasket on the adapter plate. Just the rear seal cover. Also only silicone is used on the timing cover. I found it very handy to have bought the actual Cummins manual from the Cummins dealer. I don't remember the cost. The book is about 1 1/2" thick and has everything there pertaining to rebuilding to troubleshooting. I would look it up but I'm away from home heading oversees for another Iraq adventure. Good luck to you and hope you finnish up soon. I have followed some of the threads and you have been at this awhile.

Thanks much Jim. I will have to get the book as SomeData (AllData) is about worthless when you really need it.

Am I understanding that you are military? If so, thanks for all you have done/will do in the future. There are PLENTY of us who still know that freedom isn't free and thank God everyday for our fighting men and women. If not for you guys, my CTD would be another rice burner and I'd be riding a cramped train to work everyday!

Thanks very much for your support and the support of others on here. Yes I am serving with the Army National Guard. I'm currently on my second deployment working on my 30th year of service. I do hope you get your rig up and running soon. I know what it is like to not have a truck when you need it. My block cracked (53) at about 76K right as we were in the proccess of moving. Fortunately I had a friend with a 2500 Ram that helped me get my trailers full of stuff moved.
