add-a-leaf

anyone installed an add-a-leaf on their truck. My truck sags when i tow the boat (10000lbs) or cary a load in the bed. I would like to stay with a spring instead of air bags because of the cost.

The springs i have found are 2. 5 inches wide instead of 3 inches like the ones on the truck.

My experience with add a leaf is not good. They usually dont fit well, squeak after a while and tend to wander out of the spring pack. Ive got factory overloads now and have had air bags on other trucks. Both work well. The bags give the most versatility for hieght adjustment. If you go the add a leaf route you will have to find a 3 inch spring. Good luck. Bill

You could try Tembrens. They don't cost much, and will last for the life of the truck.

i too have not had any good experiances with add-a leafs. The last thing you would want to do to a Dodge truck is stiffen it's rear springs, it rides bad enough now. Add-A-Leafs, external overloads all create more problems then they solve, there are way too many ways to add extra load capacity without resorting to such drastic and un-pleasent means. Air bags are by far the best way to add the capacity you need. They can be adjusted to not only carry the load, but support the truck weight on a cussion of air, and make for a much better ride at all times. Yes they are more expensive, but if cheap is all you are after, then by all means go back to the Add-a-leafs. They are the cheap solution.

You talked me into it,just ordered a set of Firesrone air bags from summit. They should be here in 4 or 5 days. I will let you know how they work out when i get them installed.

Do the Firestone Air Bags replace the rubber bumper stops (like the Tembrens do) or not. I was looking at pictures of them, but it is hard to tell from the pictures. They are not as expensive as I thought they would be.

Tembrens replace the stock rubber stops (those rubber stops the axel hits if you bottom out the suspension.

The Tembrens are rubber springs that compress and serve as an overload spring.

I was just wondering if the air bags mounted the same way. (replacing the stock rubber stops)

Air bags do not replace the rubber stops. They bolt (4 bolts) to the frame on top and use u-bolts (2) to attach to the springs/axle on the bottom

On the '03 and later trucks, both with the Air Lift and Firestone, the air bag bracket replaces the rubber bump stop over the axle. It's an easy no-drill installation.
