Has any one had any success getting the dealer to add keyless entry or remote start to their 2016 ram?

I just bought a new 2016 Ram 2500 Tradesman Cummins and did not realize it did not have keyless entry until I took delivery.:confused: Has power locks and power windows so I did not even ask ( yes I'm a D.A.). Found many people talking about getting it added to their 2010-2014, so I would think it can be done successfully. Through my research l ended up buying the oem remote start kit from my dealer, I installed it and they tried to program it. They had it working then all of a sudden it quit working, the tech ( I use the word loosely ) seemed to be in way over his head. After 5 hours at the dealer I left with out it working ( and a pocket full of excuses ). I think they fried the RF module, but unfortunately I can't prove it.

Remote start and keyless entry can both be added to a base Tradesman.

Unfortunately, I've read that if the truck is attempted to be started before the programming is done, it will "fry" something in the electronics.

I assume the remote start sales code was added into the BCM???

Yes they said they did. They also told me they have never done it and it could not be done. It's the remote start RF module that can not be plugged in until the pcm has been reconfigured. The "Tech" put in the keyless entry code and the remote start code and then said they were conflicting.

Since Remote Start includes keyless entry, I'd consider removing the keyless entry code and apply only the Remote Start code.

They said they did that, but I think the RF module is the problem now. The installation instructions say not to plug it in until the computer is reprogrammed. I guess I'm going to have to buy another module and find a more qualified dealer.

Did they add the hood switch? I added RS to my nephews 2013 1500 but it already had fobs and keyless entry. I added RS sales code to the BCM, swapped the rubber covers on the fobs from used RS fobs (the contacts are already on the circuit board on every fob), jumped the hood switch circuit of the BCM to ground and it worked perfectly.
If you purchased the RS kit from Mopar and the module is bad the dealer should replace it under the Mopar warranty.
If in doubt about the sales codes, run the option list on a like truck that has RKE and RS and see what sales codes it has compared to what they added on your truck.

I installed it ( hood switch, antenna etc), they added the sales code then installed the RF module. It worked for about five min then quit working. They said the PCM reconfigured it self because it's not compatible with my truck.

OK, there is an inhibit monitor in the scan tool that should tell them the last 8 reasons the RS did not work. Also when you attempt to RS does the horn sound and lights flash once, twice, or not at all?

They gave me no reasons other than the unit was not compatible with my truck. The tech told me he had it working then it stopped working, I never got to see it actually work. When I questioned the service manager about it working then not working, he said they forced it to work and that the computer reconfigured it self after the disconnected from it. On of the service writers was helping the tech with it, makes me think someone doesn't know what they are doing.

Figured it out! They sold me the kit for a 1500. Duh... The lesson of the day is not all dealers are created equally! When the right kit comes in I will be driving to west palm beach to get it installed.

Thank you you every one for your help!!

It's in and functioning as it should. Arrigo of WPB had not problem making it right.

I know where I will be buying my next new truck.

i live on the treasurecoast area in florida and called the fort pierce arrigo location and they said it could not be done to my vehicle so i started serching and found this. is your truck a tradesman or tradesman express? and if you dont mind what was the name of the service writer or service manager you delt with in west palm? that way i can call the same guy and get my truck done and not have to deal with the bull**** of explaining that it can be done.
