W/D hitch ?

Should I Convert To Drw???

Has anybody added additional trailer brakes on the double axle trailers.

I have a double axle trailer I use to haul my Jeep on. It currently has a single axle trailer brake setup.

How difficult would it be to add breaks to the 2nd axle?

Any specific manufacturers of parts that you'd recommend.

I can do the work, but it would be nice to have guidance from somebody who has already completed something like this.

Thanks.

Bob

If the axle has a backing plate bolt flange, you can buy the pieces and bolt them on and wire it up. Backing plates usually cost around $50 each, the drum hub assembly about the same. Then connect the black or blue wire to the blue wire and the white to the ground or white wire. If you don't have the flanges, you will need to buy an axle assembly, around $200. Redneck trailer supply is you best source for the pieces.

Thanks everybody. It's a winter project. I want to get this done before I tow my Jeep out to Colorado next summer.

Hey RRees let us know how it goes. I want to do the same thing with my trailer. Where are you located? A bunch of us in South Carolina want to make that trip too.

Thanks.

In most cases its cheeper to buy a complete axle without the springs, than to piece meal the hardware..... I have done this to more than one trailer... . and its about 25% cheeper to buy the complete set up... . as an assembly, all you need to know is the distance between the mounting flanges... or the width, center line to center line on the tires..... and when I've updated I was able to get an axle with grease zerks on the end of the axle shaft... . so its easier to grease the bearings... .

Redneck trailer sells brake kits with everything you need... . You just need to figure out which axle and brake setup you have. Buddy bearings don't work too well with drum trailer brakes. Too much grease pushes past the seal and kills the brakes.
