tomorrow... a 20,000uf/50v/90C... .

after many tries to keep this pos electrical system from kicking my TC in and out... (yes, i've cleaned/replaced my tps)

if the $50 (shipping included) capacitor doesn't work, i'll go for a new alternator... . then a new trans temp sensor (would have done that one first, but it's inside the pan... some say it's a pita to do... )

alternator: dealer wants $375... . NAPA wants $225.....

question..... is the NAPA one just as good?...

ps. interesting that DC has written a tsb for this problem and it points to the alternator, but doesn't say what to do... i guess when they do that it means to replace the part... .

thanks for all of the help..... scott.

also, is the napa 120amp remanufactured alternator adequate for my truck?... . where is the 140 amp fuse located?

thanks. scott.

Napa used to have a couple of lines of parts. If you get the "Gold" line of parts they are as good or better than the OEM parts. For electrical parts Napa is the ONLY choice as far as I am concerned, I will not but alternators or starters etc anywhere else. I learned that the hard way.

Not sure where the fuse is on a 12V.

I work at a autoparts store and I can sell them for 181. 33 A 120amp alternator I would check a parts store other than napa

thanks. scott.

The fuse is located in the PDC under the hood. It's a large fuse screwed down at the engine end of the box.

that ain't funny. i just want my problem solved... .

... . and it will be a good price (for me)..... i'm a pawnbroker... ...

Scott ...

Sorry if I offended you ..... not my intention ... I wish I could be closer to help you figure out the problem. Have you checked the lokup soleniod in trans????? Have you tried putting a switch in there and force lockup?

Keith

that's ok, you can't offend a pawnbroker.

if you mean a bill k. mystery switch, then yes, i have tried that. i am going to have the dealer install a new trans tem sensor tomorrow.

thanks. scott.

Steve, you need to establish if it is a command problem or possibly a hydraulic one. You need to monitor the signal to the tcc solenoid and see if it is cycling with the hunting. The output speed sensor, it's wires, the wires between the tps and the pcm, the solenoids, the solenoid to valvebody gasket, AC volts present in the system are some of the possible causes. It will narrow it down some to establish that it is for sure being told to hunt. I believe it was LSmith that found a broken tps ground wire a few inches from the tps. It was broken in the insulation and causing intermittent problems. Good luck.

Shot in the dark

THis could not possibly be related to a battery temp sensor that adjusts the voltage output relative to battery temp????

I now up here in ND, wintertime I see 15+ out of my 96. Summertime it hardly hits 14.

Just a long shot!

Had a truck that had very erratic shifting that turned out to be corroded connector on batt. temp sensor. Recently had a guy mention loose cable lugs in the PDC. Since then have had several reports of guys finding theirs loose. :--) Just a thought.

I had the same problem with my 95 3500 4X4, it drove me nuts.

Turned out that I had a bad trans temp sensor. The sensor intermittently reported that the trans temp was too cold for lock-up, kind of like having a bad wire to the sensor. I've also have friends that have had the same problem and, thanks to my brother who is a trans guy, found bad solenoids.

good luck... Hope you can get your money back for the cap.

My transmission temp sensor did the exact opposite, it was reporting the transmission being too hot. It would downshift into 3rd gear at 70 mph. $26 and I was fixed. At least fixed enough to sell the POS and buy a 5-speed. :)
