I had read that someone had an extra clutch disk they used. So just restack the stock and alternate them, making sure the outer materials stay the same??

There is a spec on spreading the case, I want to think . 050 is what I remember, but in the service manual it shows an indicator on there. Also I have been told to use lots of preload only for competition use that puts lots of torque on the rear(truck pulling). This helps to eliminate spinning the bearing on the carrier.

I have used an extra clutch plate in a D70 power-loc; but in the D80 trac-loc, I don't think it is really needed (unless you are looking for a spool-like aggressiveness).

I think a D80, with new clutches stacked properly, would be almost too aggressive for our light rear-weight trucks for most street use, but if you have other intentions... it would be a cheap alternative to a locker possibly.

You take a chance of possibly distorting the case or breakin the bolts if you add too many clutches... IIRC, I measured the deflection of the bellvue washer and figured out that I had enough room for an extra clutch when the bellvue was compressed flat.

Thanks for the info. I don't plan to add anything extra, and I would just restack my clutches that have 34K on them. Just servicing the rearend and figured it would be as good of time as any.

where can I get a rebuild kit for the trac-loc in my dana80? I might get one just to have on hand incase my discs are shot. I don't wanna have to much down time when I go to restack them. I've looked and looked, but I can't seem to find a kit anywhere.

Two places... Randy's Ring and Pinion or 4xHeaven... I personally like 4xHeaven out of New York.

Make sure you know what LSD you have... there is a D80 trac-loc and a D80 power-loc... only one is still supported. It depends on the shape of the cross pin (whether its round or a "V" shape). I believe if you can find the BOM number on the axle tubing, they can tell you what it has...

Stacking clutches is a great way to improve diffentials performance in the mud and other soft terrians. its also a got way to cheat in mud bog classes where lockers arent legal. the one problem I have seen on the many rearends I have been in with clutch type limited slip differentials is the ears on the steels of the clutch pack breaking off. when this happens your back down to a open differential. stacking clutches, parking lots, or situations where on tire is on pavement other is on soft terrian is especially hard on the clutch type differentials. something has got to give, whether it be both tires spin or clutch pack slips or break somethings got to give. Longer wheel base trucks can get away with it more in parking lots cuz the difference between the tires speeds of rear tires are closer to each other than on a short wheel base vehicle, such as a jeep.

you might want to consider other options if you have the extra pocket change. Lock-rite kits that go in the differential suck also. as they wear out and you have to replace them, go with another differential, or deal with a open diff and rachet sounds and a nagging wife.
