I have recently accuired a Gearvendor overdrive for my Dodge. It is the heavier duty unit with larger oil pan and heavier output housing and bearings. My main question is when i add this to my pickup and bolt it to the trans case, the first section of the two piece driveline is going to be very short. I was looking for any information from others who had done this installation and what they would and wouldnt do again. If i do need to keep the two piece driveline instead of changing to a one piece, I would like to change the carrier bearing, but have not had any luck finding one from my local suppliers. Napa does not even show it in their book. Thanks again for any help.
 
Having looked very seriously into the Gear Vendors unit, I have found that you will be much better off with a single shaft as opposed to having a real short 2 piece. A friend had the GV unit installed on his 01' 3500 and ended up having vibration and balance problems with the 2 piece and had a driveling shop make a single piece unit.

I'm really interested in anyones' first hand experience with this unit. Running the 12 wastegate I'm wondering if this will keep me in the "sweet spot" right up to 90mph?
 
HHMMM, Got a good friend that has a gear vendor in 97 extended cab 4X4. Initially the installer ran one piece drive shaft, had vibration problems. Then he had a two piece with carrier bearing made the vibration went away. I might be wrong but I think there is a magic number, like about 60". If your driveshaft needs to be longer than 60" then you need a carrier bearing; shorter than 60" then prolly not. Talk to GV, my buddy says they have great tech support.

NWvintageagparts, and RDBuck, I'm not sure on how yours would mount since your trucks are 4x4's, but I would think that it would require a two-piece set-up. My GV mounts where the carrier bearing was, so I ended up with two driveshafts about 3' long each. They run vibration free:D .

RDBuck, as to the sweet spot, I ran mine tonight down the highway @ 70mph, 1700RPM.
