Got a nice fuel filter base, spin on type, off a crashed out 3406 powered Peterbuilt.

I am thinking about putting it on the Ram. Might try to make it work between the fuel pump and the fuel tank. Not sure if this would create too much of an inline resriction and keep fuel from flowing to my BG220. Only other option is to mount it after the BG220 up in the engine compartment and get rid of the factory set up. Need to look it over. Will make a nice project some snowy weekend this winter. Any ideas? You can put those nice high eficiency CAT fuel filters on it then. Can even install a priming pump if you want.

A priming pump would be cool! It sure is alot faster to manually re-prime my 12v than it is to re-prime my 24v.

Hmmm, Cat parts on a Cummins? I think someone's been working on Cats to long;)

You haven't painted your Cummins Cat Yellow yet have you?

The only hold up with removing the stock unit for the spin on style is the electronic sensors on the stock unit. I have not looked into seeing what happens if they are disconnected and left tied up. As long as the sensor is there I dont think its a problem, not sure on that yet.

pusher and filter

i have already added a pusher pump and prefilter, to my truck. fwiw, jegs has a spin on filter base with a water drain spin on filter available. i put on an inexpensive low pressure pump in series with the oem. mounted it just in front of the fuel tank, with a simple flow thru fuel filter. i wired the pusher independent of the oem, with a toggle switch from a key on source to trigger the relay. so far, works like a champ!! as noted above, makes changing the oem filter a snap-- just key on, turn on the pusher, and bleed air. i am trying to locate an electric shut off to put back there also. so far no luck. a hidden switch for the shutoff would be a security feature, as well as a way to shut the engine down in case of a "run on"... .....

Go for it! I removed my oem filter a year ago and installed a aftermarket filterhead. It will accept any number of spin on filters. I was interested in eliminating the small inlet and outlet as well as the ease of maintaining a spin on filter. Now I have 1/2 npt in and out to match my -8 fuel system.

Chad, All the GMC school buses that I've worked on have a primary and secondary filter. I'd say the primary has a lower filtration element and will not restrict the supply much, until it plugs up that is. Find a primary filter for the housing and I think you'll be fine.

Aftermarket Filter Head

Chad,

I either fill the new spin on with fuel or use the bleed valve on the aftermarket filter head. If further bleeding is necessary I would recommend bleeding at the VP44.

85cj,

I go from the 12mm port in the pump to -8 using two fittings.

My 97 has a primary spin on fuel filter under the cab on the inside of the frame, as well as the fuel water seperater under the hood. i replace the primary every 10,000# and the fuel water seperater every 20,000#. works great. the fuel water seperater is usually not that dirty.
