Does anyone know if the factory 03 in dash 6 disc head unit has RCA outputs? How would you get a signal for a sub amp?

correct me if I am wrong, but I think he was asking about a way to hook up an extra amp not opinions on the set itself. That said I am pretty sure you can not do it without a lot of wire splicing.

Thanks artie,

but they want $80 for the box. I was hoping someone has already added a sub amp to the factory system. Maybe someone could tell how much room is up in the dash? enough for a smalish amp?

A guy that I know (use to work at a pretty high end stereo shop), said they never used those RCA converters and just tapped into the factory speaker wires and put RCA plugs on the other end... He told me most of those RCA converters where junk and would cause noise problems, etc. So they just ditched them and spliced directly to the amps. This gave more input power to the amp, and they would just turn the gain down a little to compensate for it (this would also reduce the possibility of noise issues)...

I have been in probably 10 cars like this and they sounded great with factroy head units, replaced speakers, and aftermarket amps. so it does work.

Also you might check with CrutchField.com they can usually set you up with something and all the connections to make it a plug and play operation.

Good luck,

Dave

Well I guess I will have to be the first one to put 8" kickers in the rear doors with a 310 watt class D amp some where up under the dash. if there is enough room. Could be a long project.

most subwoofer amps have a speaker level input so just splice into the wiring of the back speakers and the amp will handle the crossover.

Then I would have to run TWO amps, one for each side. Also I would have to run power all the way back for both sides as well.

At first this is what I was thinking, but just seems like more work.

I second checking with Crutchfield. They are very knowledgable about the products they sell and how they can be used in our vehicles.

That being said, most amps DO have both line level and speaker level inputs and can be wired into your head unit with your speakers connecting to the amp.

I added a JL Audio six channel amp to my stock in dash 6-disc changer. It had both RCA and high level inputs. I tapped into the wires out of the back of the factory radio and ran them to the high level inputs. From the amp I ran new speaker wires to the new speakers and added a 10" sub. Channels 1 & 2 to the fronts, 3 & 4 to the rears and 5 & 6 bridged to the sub. Sounds great and still have balance and fade as well as steering wheel controls.

Daren,

Where did you put the amp and how big is it?

How do the stock speakers sound, did it change using a different amp (especialy the rear doors)?

Which wires did you tap into, all of them?

Thanks!
