While browsing through my Summit catalog today I found a remote mount filtration unit marketed for transmissions. The unit uses an equilevent filter to the Fram PH8A.

It is nothing fancy, a remote mount filter head, some 3/8" line and some fittings. The price is ~$29.

Do you think there is anything wrong with this unit for adding additional filtration? I'd just like to use a 2nd full flow filter for some extra filtering capacity at an inexpensive cost/maintence (yes I'm debating a Bypass unit as well and I understand all the added benefit of the Bypass).

The filter port on the top of the oil filter housing, is it oil that has been already filtered or is it unfiltered oil?

Thanks for the information,
Ryan

Edit: How does the Amsoil Bypass work? If the filter is completely clogged, does oil still continue to flow, hence the name bypass? If so this could be a problem with the above filter, no bypass valve.

There is no way you want to run all your oil through that little filter. Wrong application.
The Amsoil system is set up to take a little oil off to the side, clean it, dump it back in. It does not affect your oil flow. Even if it was welded shut, it would not affect the flow.

I'm not intending to run all the oil through the filter, but plumb it like a "full flow" bypass filter. Does this make sense?

I'd use the same test port that you are all using for the Amsoil bypass filter, this way only some of the oil goes to the additional full flow filter.

Also as I understand it, all full flow filters have a bypass valve built in them. This is so when the filter begins to become restricted, it will not affet the oil flow in an extremely adverse way.

Dual full flow?
I guess it would not hurt, but you are R$Den on yer own here.
I'm one that thinks the By-pass is overkill in these engines, I think you would be just wasteing your time and asking for trouble.
Hassle/time/money/danger VS extended engine life.

Stick with a high quality oil and filter, and the engine is going to last hundreds of thousands of miles anyway.

'Bypass' filtration just means a little oil is bypassed around the oil pressure system and thru the bypass filter. It has no correlation to a filter bypass/pressure relief. A real bypass system is beneficial because they're much more efficient in micron size. Another full flow filter in parallel won't give you the analytical results of a bypass filter. Craig
