hopefully this can save some others alot of anguish...
I picked up my 05 in March. My brother-in-law(a tractor-trailer driver) was telling me that it is a good idea to run additives with your fuel, so I started running stanadyne in April.
In May I started getting a CEL w/P0251. Each time while using a quadzillaraider and stanadyne.
In June ... same thing. Only this time-MAJOR trip to the dealer(WTY-2 valves, pushrod, injection pump).
In July, same P0251 w/ & w/o Quad but w/ stanadyne.
I put together a diary of the results and dates as near as I could remember and I noticed that there seemed to be a relation between the stanadyne and the codes. I did a search on here for stanadyne and found a few obscure
posts about 3rd gens problems caused by additives, one mentioning that even Cummins had spec. stated "never, never use additives" in these 3rd gens. Its sort of weird that some people use additives and swear by them w/ the same truck. All I can say, that in the couple of weeks since replacing the fuel filter and not using the additive, No Codes.
