I'm looking at getting an adjustable ball mount.

The Rapid Hitch looks like, but it seems expensive for what it is. $155. They say it's 30% stronger than steel. I don't understand how aluminum is stronger than steel.

Steel Putnam one is $100, 10" drop, which seems like a bit much.

Rapid hitch comes with 2 balls, I have to put one for the Putnam.

Anyone using an adjustable mount? Recomendations?

Thanks

I have a ball/pintal mount. I only tow trailers that have a 2" ball, so I do not need two balls  It does not adjust fast (4 bolts) but it does a great job.

Solid Aluminum heat treated to T6 is stonger than steel. also more brittle. if it were to break it would be more dramatic. it is rated to 10k IIRC. the rapid hitch is a NICE setup and works great. i dont own one, but borrowed one and loved it. in the future i will be buying the rapid hitch and the additional ball for it. comes out to replacing about 30 receivers with 3 parts. i like that idea. less space. a high quality part.

I paid $30 for my putnam... not $100 !

PUTNAM 11 inch Adjustable Ball Mount With Pins & Keepers

6000lb Maximum Load

I think its actually 8000 lbs max not 6000. I could go look...

This is not solid but its square tubing. the one that is 10" is "Solid" and good for 10000 lbs that costs $60. I would not be towing 10,000 lbs behind a bumper pull myself anyway...

You might want to check a QuickDraw Hitching System out. The model I have is rated at 16,000 lbs with a 3,200 lbs toung weight.

This site does not show the model I have, but I know you can find them. Mine can be used like a pintle style also. The nice thing that it fold up under and out of the way. ;)

Took me a few minutes to find one, this is the hitch I have.

I have Andersen's Rapid Hitch. I couldn't live without it anymore. It proved very usefull, its capacity matches perfectly with the class IV factory hitch, and aluminium makes its rustproof. Dan

Putnam class V hitch $132. 91

Putnam 10k adjustable ball mount $64. 21

2 5/16 chrome 10k ball $8. 00

Shipping $10.

Not bad.

The adjustable part, is there some kind of lock on that, or would someone be able to steal it?

I ordered a Putnam Class V hitch, 10" adjustable drop ball mount and a 2 5/16" ball... all that stuff rated to at least 10k. $215 shipped. Not bad at all.

I think I just meant some little padlocks to go through the holes in the pins where the retain clip thingies go now. You could probably get a long/skinny padlock to go through both pins probably. Or just lock the main ball mount and hope some idiot realizes theyre not going to do much with half of it!

Patrick, yeah I realized that when I was looking at another persons setup. Like a little luggage lock. The thing is those are easy to cut, but like you said, who is going to go to all that trouble to steal half the ball mount, since the main part will be locked into the hitch.

The Rapid Hitch looks like a nice setup, but it's expensive. The steel Putnam was $65. I hope Putnam is a decent name. I was recomended them by a few people. The other brands like Draw Tite where alot more money compared to Putnam.

I have the B & W tri ball "Stow and Tow" Check out www.turnoverball.com Awesome product. I have one hitch that will haul anything with a 1 7/8, 2 or 2 5/16 inch hookup.

It's a little spendy but I am really tired of pounding the pin out and the ball off on my Convertiball. I'll be getting one soon.
