Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Adjusted valves I feel dumb now

Boy oh boy do I feel like Homer Simpson ( Doh ) :0. Adjusted the valves on the truck and being the fourth time to do this I thought I knew what I was doing. Not! I found out this time that I can use an allen wrench to adjust the valve clearance, instead of the valve stem under the rocker arm. Slap me on the butt and call me Sally, lol. My book does not mention anything about using an allen wrench at all. Guess I will be getting a better book now. Learn something new every day. I do check mine every 30k and adjust if needed, there is no way mine will go 100k between adjustments.

Don't quite know what you mean about adjusting the valve stem.

What I was doing was turning the valve stem itself, mine has colored rings about 1in below the rocker. Maybe I am not calling it the right word, but, just below the rocker is a colored band, I was turning that.

The valve stem is inside the valve spring, do you mean the push tube?

Sorry , lack of sleep. Yes I was turning the push rod geeze I have been up too long, lol
