hi all, just installed dss,5100's and 3rd gen. track bar. stupid question here. once the track bar is on,with axel pretty well centered, should the adjusting sleeve be toward one side of the threads or in the middle?also,is there a specific distance wheel to wheel it shold be adjusted to?any ideas welcome. by the way, drives much nicer now. thanks, mike

Yes, before I put my on I asked Russell at solid steel what the center to center distance was on a non adjustable and it is 39 inchs. I wanted to know what a non adjustable center to center was so when I put my adjustable up I knew where it was suppose to start. It was about 1/16 off enough so you couldn't get the bolt in. I had my wife barely move the steering wheel and it slide right in. I hope this helps. Paul

thanks, anyone else wondered this? also, did you have to realign steering wheel?mine was at about 1/3 turn to the right... adjusted on drag link. anyone care to chime in on the part of my question about the threads? thanks again, mike

My only experience is on a '78 F-150 I had many years ago (back in 1991) and onto which I installed a 6" lift. With the stock bar, the steering wheel was about 90 degrees off when driving straight. I basically installed the bar, and adjusted it until the wheel was straight. Seemed to work at the time... .

My steering wheel was off to left about 1/3 turn (not due to the TB) because I put in a PSC box and the input shaft did not align with the steering shaft so I turned the steering wheel to the left until it lined up. So my wheel was already off-center when I installed the TB.

I may wait till I get an alignment and have them re-center the steering . I just compared the old bar lrength with the new TB and adjusted the new TB it to minimum to get it close to the old length.

Did anyone take measurement to verify the axle is centered and how is that done?

Dave

Yep, my steering wheel was off about the same. I just follow the adjustmet directions and turned out just fine. I think 15 mm wrench was needed. Adjust the split sleeveon the tie rod adjacent to the pitman arm. If it is off to the left shorten the tie rod. If it is off to the right lengthen the tie rod. I ended up turning mine about a turn and a half. Make sure the bolts are not going to be in the way turning left or right. Paul
