If you have removed your antenna, do you have to readjust the SWR. Same antenna, same radio, just took the antenna off and disconnected it from the radio. Thanks.

Depends on a few things. Type of antenna. Say you have a mag mount and just take the aerial out and leave the mag mount on the truck, then you would have to readjust the SWR. If you have a 102" whip then there is no tuning. If you have a tuneable tip firestik, once you tune it, you can remove it with no problem as long as the tuning screw isn't messed with. Back to the mag mount, take off the entire antenna, once tuned and the set screw tightened, as long as the aerial isn't messed with or bent, no tuning is required as long as you set the mag mount back in the same position on the truck that you tuned it at. Changing the location of the antenna, changes how it reacts to its surrounding, get it up as high and to the center of your truck as possible for the best results. But if you get a tunable antenna, along with a quick disconnect, tune the antenna, you should be alright.

Tune It

If you have a meter available, I would re-check after re-install. I had to remove then re-install my Firestik after about 2 week lapse. Same location, but SWR was way off. In fact, it took a bit of time to get it right, had me wondering WTH was wrong:confused: Jim G.

Thanks for the replys. I had some hail damage and had to remove the antenna and the mount for the body work and repaint. The antenna is a Firestick with a tuneable tip. I don't have a meter, but the CB shop I went to before only charges $5 to tune SWR. I'll hook it up and do a couple of checks and see how it goes.
