Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Adjusting the T/V cable

I have read that the t/v cable should have about 1/8" play at WOT. What does movement either way cause?

i. e. ; More play = later or earlier shifts?

1/8th to 3/16th play at WOT, looser = earlier shifts.

Thanks. I'll just leave it alone. I'm getting a very early 2-3 shift under "normal" throttle. Anywhere from 3-5 mph after the 1-2 shift
