I installed the POD's and rotated the pump 1/8".

Wow, what a difference! I have a new truck again.

But my problem now is that oil seems to be leaking from the VE pump.

I cannot see/tell exactly were the oil is coming from.

The oil is running down the aluminum gear housing and splashing onto the front differential or running all the way down to the back of the oil pan.

Can the gasket between the pump and housing get damaged when rotating the pump for a timing advance?

Has anyone encountered such a disturbance?

Thank you for any input...

I imagine it could. I've never seen it on two trucks. I would take it to the car wash and clean/degrease it real good, and find out for sure where its leaking. Then if the gasket is bad, time for a puller and basic hand tools to remove the pump.

It's funny you bring this up now... I was just thinking about this on the way home earlier in the week... by that I mean, how rare it seemed to be that when we all tinker with our pump timing no one seems to really have any oil leak troubles... including me and I've been at mine numerous times too... . wierd.

Mine did the same thing but come to find out the nuts were not tight enough.

exspecially the one that is all the way on the bottom. I could not find "Banana wrenchs" to fit and bend around. So I bent my own wrenches with a torch. Now I have custom wrenchs for a VE pump Haaaa!!

oil leak

I have found that the oil leak in the pump area is all most always the vacuum pump to gear case gasket area. On the 91 to 93 trucke equipped with the rotary

pump what happens is the gasket surface on the vac pump housing warps at the bolt hole ears. This is due to the constant back and forth torquing put on the housing by the power steering pump when the wheels are turned. If they would have used 3 or 4 bolts to hold the housing to the gear case instead of 2 we would not have this problem. The way I have fixed dozens of these with this problem is . I take the pump off and clean the old gasket, case and housing with carb cleaner then put it back together with the old gasket and a heavy bead of silicone. I have never had to fix any twice.

Replacing just the gasket with a new one will NOT fix the leak problem!

The 89/90 that have the diaphragm pump do not seem to have the leak problem in this area.

if you turned the pump there is a good chance you disturbed the gasket. all the newer engines have an o-ring,not a gasket. it seems to hold up better. i want to turn my pump, but my head gasket oozes a little antifreeze in the front. mechanics hate workin on their own stuff. good luck pete
