Advice on The Purchase of a New '09 Honda Civic EX???

I'm considering the purchase of a new Honda Civic EX for driving around town & to work. I'd like the automatic trans. , also. This is the one with the sunroof, 4-wheel disc brakes & a few other odds & ends. One dealership, I'm looking at, has these things loaded-up with paint protection packages, mudguards, door edge guards, an $1899. 00 Value Added Premium & tinted windows. I'm not interested in leather or the in-dash GPS.



In passing, I asked how serious they were about the Value Added Premium & he said not to worry about it. That's pretty popular, around here. My '03 had a $3000. 00 VAP & I told the Fleet Salesperson that that would be a deal breaker.



All of this stuff adds well over $3000. 00 to the cost of the vehicle & the only thing I would be really interested in is the tinting ($299. 00). Does anyone know, FOR SURE, how serious the dealerships are about the customer actually having to pay for this stuff?



The other thing I'm wondering about is how much profit the dealership has in these vehicles? Naturally, the dealership wants to get as much of my hard earned money as they can & I can't blame them. However, I would like to keep as much of my hard earned money, as possible, & still get the car. I'd like to get the best possible deal on this car.



Does anyone know just how much the dealer pays for these cars? That way, I could make an educated decision on how much to offer or know just how wealthy they are getting on my dollar.

I think the Civics are a good vehicle. That said I wouldn't pay hardly anything for those dealer add-ons which are there strictly for added profit. Why don't you check Edmunds. com and get the invoice price or spend a couple of dollars and get one of the Consumer Reports vehicle cost printouts and then start doing the comparison shopping route by calling the nearest dealers first and asking for their best price on a "EX" package.

If you go the to the dealer's lot first you're usually going to experience to "What will you give me?, Let me check with the manager. " abuse. Let the telephone effort weed out all the "BS" and insist on a firm out the door price before you even consider showing up.

I have bought three new hondas and bargained on all three. They had a advantage when gas was so high on their high mpg cars. , but that is going away. with the economy the way it is they will have to compete for buyers do your research as someone above said, go in there with some knowledge. robert
