Update
With the advice given from TDR members I think my problem is solved. We towed 850 miles to our destination through this past weekend (now at Lake Winnipeg, MB) with no chimes from the EVIC saying the trailer brakes weren't connected. On my previous tow it was dinging every 15 minutes. All I did was crawl under the trailer and with electrical tape recovered the brake wires anywhere that it appeared they were rubbing steel (inside drums, leaf springs and grommeted hole through axle). Although I didn't notice anywhere that the wire coating had been rubbed through to the wire, I thought this would be a good place to start. The only other thing I did was to clean and tune the trailers plug to ensure the best connection (I had done this previously also but the alert reappeared so I don't think that was the problem). Anyhow... working fine now. Thanks again!
