TST w/ Adjustable Rail Pressure now. No more EZ?

I have tried two separate types of boxes on my '04 and want to try something else. I had an EZ that worked very well but I was worried about rail pressure. I have used the quad XZT (as I have read it does not run as high of pressure as the EZ) and like it much better than the EZ, but I realy want more power out of my truck. I tow a fairly light tratel trailer (5000) occasionaly. Mostly I use the truck to driver about 150 miles each day to and from work, and for hauling stuff home from Home Depot. I really just want the power to play around. I have considered the TST, Edge Juice, PPE downloader, Quads 100-140 HP modules, and the smarty. All these are within what I can afford to spend right now so a clutch and turbo will have to wait awhile. Please give me your opinions on what you guys have run, the troubles you had with them and what you recommend. I have also been considering 90 HP injectors from Dynomite Diesel and keeping my XZT box.

I don't have an answer for you but I'm eagerly anticpating what response you get. I am looking at the Edge Juice for my dad's 04. 5 and perhaps for my 03.

I have the hot juice on mine, I have had to send it back to Edge once, they had a new one on my door step the next day. I don't know what went wrong but the truck just died and I had to take it off on the side of the road in my Navy white uniform.

My buddy has the Bully dog triple dog on his 04. 5 dually and I would say his throttle responce is a little better but I get better mileage, but that has to do with the manual gearbox. I would have gone with the Bully dog with the monitor but I was able to do the beta testing for edge so I got it at a pretty darned low price and I do like the built in gauges and the protection features. The boost does come up pretty fast, I have seen it spike at 45 psig in level four and I won't even talk about level 6. I got pulled over last night because I was fillin a honda with smoke. Nice cop though, let me go with a warning. :D

I just put in a SBC con ofe clutch because the stock G56 clutch is crap. I would recommend replacing the clutch and then puttin the power in, but your stock clutch is better than mine, by far.

From what I have read on this site the smarty is the way to go

Get a smarty, you won't be dissapointed. Internet upgradeable, 9 different programs to run, and all the power you could want are just some of the features. I am thoroughly impressed with my smarty and how it makes my truck RUN!

well i can tell you that if want a box thats a plug and leave alone edge works well, i have had the fastest track times with the edge, bullydog, and PPE, the PPE is a bit on the extreme side, but i think that a smarty would be safer if not faster as well,. hope this helps

Thanks for the replies and advice. It seems from what I have read the smarty gives way more power down low, as well as a real touchy pedal. I would have to get used to that. I was thinking about the Edge juice because of the digital gauges. My older Pricols are not easy to read at night. Most diesel shops seem to swear by the PPE downloader. I'm not realy crazy about using a downloader except the smarty due to warranty claims. I guess the smarty is the way to go from what you guys have said. I'll have to get one on order next week or so. I read that the smarty was designed to be stacked with the TST but there has been problems in doing that. It would be real nice to hear of some dyno numbers with the smarty on a somewhat stock truck.

Just for the record the ZXT from Quad has been a very good box. No problems that I could not figure out on my own.

Thanks again

I would consider the TST powermaxCR - Now with rail pressure adjustment and monitor, Its quite a combo...

I would not remove mine for anything, Quite a few 600hp 3rd gen run it.

Its nice to grow into a box, and not have to re-buy ever time you want more (other then buying more mods to support the TST)

For over 2 years TST Preach NO PERFORMANCE GAIN WITH PRESSURE,Now its OK,Was it just a lie to deceive Buyers... Now as far as rail is concern Pressure spikes are damaging. Nothing wrong with RP it"s the way the software manages the pressure. Just one Way (and their are other Tests) to see how pressure effects the Rail is when you shut down the engine , it should stop Instantly,a belt chip is a good could sound when running caps or HIGH RP.

TST still preaches the same - NO HP gain from adding pressure alone...

Before 6-8 months ago there were no CP3 mods that could take full advantage of the pressure/TST stack

So let me give an example - The new TST with rail pressure on a stock truck adds enhanced drivability, but does not add hp over a TST without rail pressure...

Take same truck with Cp3, etc mods and thats another story, just like it always has been with stacks an EZ/MP8/Ramifier, etc with a TST PMCR

tommy there is no use arguing on tst's behalf it's been proven over and over pressure makes power. modded cp3's not only increase volume but also pressure, but the timing duration and pressure do make a better combo i do agree with that. :D

I hear ya - I'm just saying that with a stock turbo/stock CP3 truck (like TST's test truck) that I think most truck top out at around 500hp without further mods... . With pressure or without, I could not crack 500hp on the little stocker - If I remember correctly I did 446 with the TST on 8/7, and 454 with the TST on 7/6 and EZ level 2... I tries a higher TST setting and dropped to 400-ish

Anyway, I agree that pressure makes power - Thats why I use the EZ - But I think mark is refering to a stock turbo/Cp3 truck...
