So here I am just over a year after buying my '05. No bombs yet, but that is beginning to change. Straight pipe should be in place in the next week or so.

I have been looking at aftermarket cold air intakes quite a bit in the last few months. Still not sold on some of them. I think I have narrowed it down to three possibilities. The AFE PG7 Stage 2 looks like it is of good quality and good filtration but it does seem a bit pricey(Not interested in the Stage 1). Another consideration is an AEM Bruteforce. Synthetic media, and I wont have to oil it. I am also torn between the filtration of the paper filters and the flow of the cotton/synthetics. This is where the BHAF comes into play. I am thinking about mating a BHAF with outerwear to the intake tube of an AEM Bruteforce, and making my own heatshield. Has anyone done this before? Turbo whine is definitely not a problem :-laf . Also, what are you guys paying for BHAF's from NAPA/WIX, and approximately how many miles are you getting out of them? If I play around and chip it in the future I dont want to have to replace the intake again. How much HP/Torque will the above setups support? Thanks in advance for helping the newbie!

I love the Brute Force intake and would buy it again. You have a pretty good idea there. If you want turbo noise this is the way to go. I'm stationed on MCAS, Cherry Point; lot's of C-130's around here and ground crew's love the sound of the truck... Combo of stacks and intake though.

I'm currently using the AEM setup. I replaced the BHAF and have tried to use a combination of the two. There just doesn't seem to be enough room without cutting things up. I also have the outerwears for both:{

I am not too afraid of cutting up the AEM intake a little bit to squeeze in a BHAF. I do not, however, want to cut up fender liners, factory brackets, etc. I was looking at some pics that NavyDood had of his AEM setup. It looks like a little bit can be taken off the filter end of the tube and maybe rotated to help get the BHAF in. As far as the heatshield is concerned, I think I would use the AEM shield with the AEM filter until I could get one fabbed for the BHAF. I have access to a sheet metal brake at work after hours. I would like to utilize the factory mounting points and make this a quality looking assembly. Most of the time, I've got some great ideas, but not the time to execute 'em. Maybe my only concern on all of this, is the longevity and replacability of the rubber/poly elboy at the turbo. But maybe thats the worrisome me for my rig.
