Has anyone gotten any info on the 50 gal replacement tank that was mentioned in the last TDR mag. I'm sure that there is a large market out here for that product.

My employer has one in his cheby durapuke. I believe they only make it for long bed if it helps any! Sure would be nice to increase the range for us short bed truck owners.

I have the American Tank 40 gallon in bed tank in my SB. It saved me $ 38 gallons just this week by filling it before the price jump. Yes, you do lose about 10" of bed space. That is the only bad news.

The good news is that the American Tank works and is a quality product. Search this site regarding Aero before buying. I didn't and I regretted it.

I put an Aero 45-gal diamond plate aux. tank in my '95 longbed. I went with Aero because it seemed like they made a good tank, and I could drive to the factory and pick it up. When I got there and got my tank I discovered it had a LOT of dust inside--so I washed it out good with diesel, but other than that I like it a lot. I've had it 4 years now, and it has saved my a bunch of money. Right now I am still running $2. 65 #2 while the nearest stations are all at $3. 49 or so.

If you look more closely at the ad I think you will see that its for long beds. You can modify the vent system for 2-3 more gallons and that may not seem like much but at every fill up its nice.

Page 119 of issue 49 of TDR has an article of Aero Tanks. The second paragraph after the picture states that they have 2 new dodge tanks to be announced with the first one for the short bed as a direct replacement for the factory tank and it will have a 50 gal capacity. I was hoping some CA TDR member might have checked them out for a time line and pricing

Thats what I get for stopping at the first paragraph when they talk about their new long bed tank. Thanks for pointing that out, 50 gal on a short bed would be nice.

Run it down to 3-4 gallons left and it would only cost 170. 00 to fill in our area.

I really like the idea of a larger tank that fits in the stock location on a SB... but I'm not sold on the idea of a metal tank. I like polyethylene because it never rusts or degrades.

I ordered this tank from West Marine. The only downside is my spare is now in the bed of the truck

Heres the tank... . 18 gal.

Made a spacer block with PT wood.

2" metal straps for holdig up to frame and hoses... .

Remove tire winch, bend straps, drill holes in the crossmember to bolt to straps,

I first used an old lift pump from the stock location but I soon replaced it with a holley pump... . This pumps to a capped hose on the top of the stock tank which is an Aux port for supply, hooked a switch on the dash for the pump, and fills it from the bottom up... Takes a few minutes like 5-10 but it works great. . !!

Marine style cap for the filler hose... .

This is the only bummer of it. Because of the tight bend here and a tight 90 deg on the top of the tank, it is very slow to fill... . good thing it is only 18 gal..... this is between the inner and outter wall of the rear fender/bed

I have been running this for a few years now and it works good. West Marine sells a fuel guage for this tank and I ran it up to my ash tray

SuperTanks makes a poly replacement tank. They have talked (written) about making a SB tank but I don't know if they have or not. I spoke to the owner about a year ago and as he put it "there's not much room under there. "

The Aero tank I had and returned due to leaking, poor workmanship and poor design came to about one inch from the driveline when installed. Make sure you know what you're getting when you buy something from them. I see no one has searched on Aero for a discussion of their products and quality. Usually when someone does the thread ends... .

Who knows, maybe a new owner straightened out the company in the last year... ... ?

Horses mouth

I could not stand waiting for info on this tank so I called Aero. The gentleman I spoke with informed me that it looks like some four to six months out for us short box owners. I was told that what they are working with now is a primary replacement tank in the 45 gal area and a satellite tank positioned under the spare tire at about 15 gal. This would give us a total of 60 gal fuel capacity. The satellite tank will fill from the existing fuel fill and feed back to the main tank. This is done without any pumps. The satellite tank will cause the spare tire to be repositioned about 6 inches lower then stock. Do to this drop of the spare, the system might only work with the 4X4 pickups. I for one would be happy to move up to 60 gal capacity without giving up any space in the box. I also like the simplicity of a self leveling system that works with gravity rather then a pump and only uses the OEM fill.
