Fellow Rammers:

The wife finally approved me installing the Aero Turbine muffler on her truck today. It's a 3-hour, 3-beer (maybe 4) job.

The sound is incredible. EGTs are maybe 50' cooler. It's pretty quiet inside, but it is pretty awsome (loud) outside under throttle. I opted to go the econo route, using most of the existing pipe. I used a come-along attached to the frame to take each pipe and the muffler off. I loosened the intermediate pipe, the one that connect to the down pipe, backed it out a bit to clear the tit DC using to align the pipes, ground it off both ends of the pipe and used a chain wrench to rotate it 180'.

Vivian even helped. Pipe woudn't fit in the vice so I had her sit on it to steady it while I cut it.

Everything is nice and tight, good fit.

These 3d Gens can really talk with the right hardware.

it's good to see that you have gone beyond "i don't know why you have to put new things on a PERFECTLY GOOD TRUCK (most dreaded 3 words)" :D with your wife.

Thats cool Im glad you like it. I had mine on with in 2 weeks of the truck roling off the lot, and I love it.

I second the, not so good sounding. A buddy of mine did it to his, I dont think it sounds that good from the outside of the truck when he gets on it from a stand still.

It is awe inspring in a sense--it's awesome how much it makes you wish for the factory exaust again :)

We had a couple out here that cut it out completely--I heard them and decided to put in a Glass-Packed muffler on mine--just because I wanted to tone down the high-pitched drone they put out as straight pipes. Of course, we're all hot-shotting with these trucks, so we're looking at a little more utilitarian uses. I considered the aeroturbine, and I may eventually add it, but it was going to cost me exactly the same ($65) at the muffler shop to put in a straight, or stick in a glass-pack--so I opted for the glasspack.

I'd like to hear an aeroturbine under load though. I know they're nice sounding empty!

I started it up w/ out muffler

I yelled for my wife to come over to the truck and told her I was done. The muffler was off and you should have seen the look in her eyes. I didn't even say anything and she said: you don't even have a muffler connected do you? She's been hanging around Dodge trucks too long to pull the wool over her eyes.

I took it to the dealer today to have it pinstriped and transmission fluid changed. The service manager commented how nice the truck is and how good it sounds. I told him it's not mine, it's my wife's. Boy, you couldn't have slapped the smile off Viv's face as he handed her the keys.

Life is good: A wife who loves Dodge/Cummins, 2d and 3d gen trucks. Woo hoo

Aeroturbine is basically the same place stock muffler was.

My wife's rig is a SB 2500 4x4: the stock setup is down pipe, intermediate pipe, muffler, tail pipe. The new setup: down pipe, intermediate pipe truned 180', short 3. 5" to 4" conversion pipe, Aeroturbine, short extension connector pipe and tailpipe.

I have took a pic and did a little quick paint work to show where and how I did it. I think the only thing diffrent between mine and Wiredawgs is that he has a 3. 5" to 4" reducer where I just had the kid at the muffler shop flare the 3. 5" pipe to as big as he could so it fit somewhat snug inside of the 4" opening on the Aeroturbine.

Hope that helps

Thanks much! I'm thinking of removing the Banks muffler and just running the A-T. It is mounted just aft of the flanged coupling of the down pipe and the front intermediate pipe. The setup sounds decent as is but has a sort of "bottled up" sound to it that I don't like. I'd like a little more honk but short of obnoxious. Railroad hours I keep ya know... ... ... . from whenever to whenever!

Oh! I forgot-------talked to Brian at Aeroturbine today (trying to run down a 36" long 4" inch stainless pipe cheap). He told me that a vendor who posts on this site (I won't mention their name right now because they may not be ready to put the info out yet, sorry just trying to be respectful) has tested an A-T actually IN the downpipe and reported a 300!!!!! degree reduction in EGT's. I said WOW!!
