If you have the stock AFC spring, don't spin the star wheel all the way toward the engine. Just turn it some, say 5 or 10 clicks at a time. Well before the star wheel reaches the front of the hole where the plug goes, all tension on the spring will be relieved and smoke control will be very poor (without helping power any more). If you have the TST AFC spring, then start at or near the end of star wheel travel. I like about 5 clicks per 1000 ft elevation from the richest setting for the TST springs.

Put the afc full forward, and you can fine tune the start fuel before boost occurs with the stud at the back under the tin cover. usually you can get away wtih turning the stud until it contacts the link for the last 1/2 turn. and still keep smoke down.

I put in a #6 plate in my 96 auto. equipted 2500. Would you suggest an spring kit & setting for me? I'm interested in starting faster from a stop.

afc adj.

Many thanks Joe;

I'm sure you are believing that I've done this before. I haven't. I will go into this now with a better idea now. Once I get the new spring from tst, I will have a much better thought process of how to. I'm sure when I open the bible, aka, manual I will see how. . I know every journey starts by opening the hood.

I'm looking for someone to do my pump timing next. I don't have a dial indicator. Can you reccomend anyone in or near Chicago?

The trans is next.

Thank You

I don't know anyone near Chi, come to May Madness; everyone will be there :D

The TST AFC spring is not essential with the #6, just a anice extra to maximize response without a lot of smoke.

May Madness

Back again Joe;

May Madness after march madness, at least we had april to regain our sanity. I appreciste the invite BUT a wednesday visit to Nevada is out of the question. Thanks anyway.

Maybe, someone else can pass on a Chicago Direct Connection person, place or thing.

It will be done now, that the need for speed, is surfacing in my garage .

When I had a Cummins I went to Scheid Diesel in Effingham IL.

It's straight down I 57. It was 225 miles for me near O hare.

I still buy stuff from them though I don't have a Diesel.

Give them a call @ 1-800-669-1934

Huckstorf Diesel in Franklin (Milwaukee) WI is another choice. FWIW, I think they are a TDR advertiser, too.

Have you tried the Bosch Diesel Service Dealer's locator? I found 3 shops within 75 miles and at least 1 will do some specialized tuning on the pump.
