Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) AFC bolt

I thought I would spin in the afc screw real quick on my brothers 94 CTD. But the bottom bolt on the cap only has a hole no hex no slot. What in the trick. Maby take off the diaphram cover and go to a vice with it? I see the same screw on the top governer cover That will be a problem when I install a up grade plate. Why didn't cummins just use the RQV governer like a John Deere 4430. Just screw in the Load screw in the back and presto?

I think those are TAMPER PROOF

screws they torque them till striping the heads smooth. So "you" don't do the things you want to do to the pump. I have seen the guys at pump shops take a small chisel and try to catch an edge of the head to get turned loose, Or possible a left hand drill bit.

Thank you CSERVERS. That is what i thought I will take the diaphram housing off and use my left hand bits. I have a 90 CTD. and 93CTD. 90 is 5 speed 93 is auto . I tunned the fuel screws in on them. the 5 speed goes like a rocket it seems I cant get nere the fuel out of the auto. truck. Cant wait to see what kind of power comes out of his 94. 35 psi. boost on the 90. I dont hold it there for long because the head gasket goes when over 30 psi for a prolonged time. 4 of them so far none sence late 91 eather a head gasket change or I am just careful now

Just FYI, you can also drill a shallow 7/64" hole in the bolt and tap in a T-20 Torx bit. If you use an impact driver, it'll be a breeze.

Use a t-15 torx and an impact driver, tap lightly it will cut a t-15 pattern break loose and unscrew easy.

You mean star wheel?

Do you mean you want to adjust the star (smoke) wheel?



That is the large hex stud in the cap.



If you want to slide the plate, then you need to remove the 4 bolts... and one lets the factory know you tampered with it.

Bubba are you saying I can slide the plate some? I thought I had to buy a new plate to get more fuel out of pump. I was just going to screw the smoke screw in to get what fuel he had earler instead of waiting for boost up. If I can moove the plate and get more than I will do that also.
