I have done nothing to my AFC, is a spring kit a good idea. And just what exactly does it do differently than the stock springs?

The main thing that a governor sping kit (GSK) does is allow the engine to rev higher. Per say your engine will stop increasing in RPM at around 3000 (sometimes before that) a spring kit(3 gsk) will let the engine increase rpm to 3400 to 3600 a 4 gsk will go to 4400 to 4600.

I think that he was referring to the AFC spring kit, and not the GSK. The AFC spring kit changes how much boost pressure is needed to move the AFC fully (if you use the lighter spring, it needs less boost pressure). Also it supposedly allows you to compromise between minimizing smoke, and still maintaining responsiveness. I put the light spring in mine, and haven't noticed much of a difference if any.

The light spring is a waste of $$. You can adjust the AFC arm through the nut and bolt on the back of the AFC using a 10mm open box end and a 3 mm allen wrench. My AFC arm is set so far forward that it is practically eliminated, no need to go for a lighter spring when you can adjust where the gov arm will first contact it.
