My brother has a #10 TST plate in a 215 hp motor. He doesn't care much about how much smoke it blows. My question is if he puts a light AFC spring in, will it give it more low end response? What would happen if he removed the AFC spring all together?
The lighter spring will let the gov lever hit main fuel curve alot faster, then you'll have lots more low fueling and the turbo will spool up faster. Oo.
You can put the lighter spring in or you could do it the cheap way. Slide the AFC housing all the way forward and turn the nut all the way forward also. These two little things will help out.
sliding the AFC housing all the way forward and adjusting the star wheel all the way forward puts considerable play in the spring... I can move mine back and forth probably 1/2" or so.
I don't see how removing the spring could be much worse
im telling him what everybody told me when i ask the same question. i had the same question you do. but when it comes to these engines there are people here that know a lot more than i do so i listen to them.
I figured removing the spring could do something bad. My brother already has the afc housing full forward and the starwheel is backed off all the way. We took the plug out and there is almost a 1/2" play in the spring. He is trying to get the most from the afc, that is why he was wondering if the light spring would give him a better low end response.
If he wants the most pre boost fuel he can get, just take the afc housing off completely and make a cover to cover the up the top of the injection pump. Oo.
