Popped mine off the other day to find that I have NO PLATE...

Working on that, will have one soon.

BUT, I slid the cover full forward, makes a lot of smoke again now, much like having the star wheel turned full forward. But now I've lost 5#'s of boost...

Now it struggles to get to 25#'s whereas before it would get to 32 in 4th... .

Is this a normal thing???? I'm gonna move it back tomorrow and see if I can get it back. . Just new at this and don't know what all does what. .

Thanks

Brad

well 215 pump w/no plate = lots + lots of fuel. Maybe so much your stock turbo cant handle it and is literally putting out the fire in the cylynders which would give you less boost... .

With the plate being gone, why would moving the cover affect anything???

Thanks Brad

The lever rides on the AFC arm until boost moves it out of the way and then it would normally ride on the fuel plate. So even without a fuel plate you still have off or low boost fuel control.

I found my 5#'s tonight... Had the truck into the dealer last week for the throttle linkage recall, and they broke my boost guage line putting it in. Was still holding itself together, but that's about it. Refitted it, poof, boost is back and the truck runs noticably better.

As for the AFC, I now see the light. That's the reason for gutting that some guys do I take it... NO of or low boost fuel control. . I don't need that amount of smoke at the moment, maybe in the future.

I did get my fuel pressure guage hooked up today as well. Running 25-27 (bouncing) @ idle and 40 and 2000rpm no load. . I'll see what I get on the trip to work tomorrow, several long climbs so I be able to check it under load, but it sounds like it's plenty of pressure from what I've read. .

Also gave the turbo a good check over looking for numbers, NADA.

I found this one on Ebay, Identical to mine right down the the crunched wastegate feed.

So I "assume" I've got a HY35, and it's starting to make a ring in the intake from the blades, got some slop in the shaft. Need to find a 40 asap to get me by until I can go larger.

Thanks

Brad

Unless someone swapped an HY35 on as a replacement you should have an HX35 stock. HY35's only came on 24 valve automatics starting in 2000 or 2001.
