Folks -
I have 14 k on my '06 auto, Quadcab. Power seems down slightly, which I attribute to that lovely winter blended #2 we run here in Upstate NY. Also, the stock factory air filter is looking kinda dirty. So, it's new filter time.
My mod plans for the truck are minimal: maybe a Smarty or an Edge EZ, but only to add 50 hp. No exhaust mods, no new injectors, aftermarket turbos, or anything that burly. I don't drag race or tow heavy. My idea of a good time is rolling on the power heavy from 50mph on up, when it's locked up in fourth gear.
I'd like another mile per gallon if I can get it, and am considering an AFE2 w/ PG, or the new dry filter. (At our fuel prices and my 18k miles a year, I'll save about $150 a year in fuel with just a 1mpg increase. )
My questions:
1- Should I go with Stage 1 versus Stage 2, because I am not going to add much power?
2- Which filter, PG or the new dry one? Do I need a prefilter? I don't four wheel heavy, or operate in unduly dusty environments.
3- Are the factory claims of 25 hp and 33 pounds of torque with the Stage 1/2 kits realistic in a stock truck?
4- A little more turbo whistle would be nice, but I'm not looking for the Tabernacle Choir under the hood. How does the sound profile change, if at all, in a stock truck?
5- Does the stock truck drive noticeably different on this mod alone?
5- Should I also consider doing just a drop in filter (AFE or Amsoil), given my limited mod plans?
Thanks folks. I appreciate the help.
