AFE and K&N cleaners

I was wondering if the AFE and K&N cleaner/oil kits are the same stuff. Can I use my K&N stuff on my AFE filter? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Wasn't it an early TDR article that mentioned that Cummins had tested these filters and found them to not allow the volume of air... and the protection against the very small particles that are in the air... . as I remember there were only 2 or 3 filters that passed Cummins tests... ...



Someone correct me here if I'm wrong... it was 3 or so years ago... . anyway after that report I took my KN out of my $18K motorcycle.....

There is a great article on air filters and maintenance of them in the latest TDR issue (#47, Pg 82) written by Joseph Donnelly. It gets into the very subject of using different oils on these filters. What was found was that the "AFE oil is finer, wicks better and doesn't cake on MAP sensors in the manifold. " This is just a small out-take that I wrote from memory but the article hits a little more on the subject of maintenance. It's a very well written piece and I highly suggest all with high flow filters read it for the info. It's enough for me to NOT use the K&N stuff on my AFE.

AFE has a patent on their oil formulation. the secret in the sauce prevents residue from forming on sensors. Joe's article is a good one -- Doug
