Need help ASAP---PS62/14 turbo install

I am just about ready to take the plunge and get an AFE Proguard 7 with the Torque tube put on my truck to help lower EGTs when pulling the big fiver. There is a dealer where we are now that sells them over the counter. He tells me he would not have any warranty issues with a CTD that had one installed, but he could not speak for other dealers, because technically it is a modification. We travel all over the western USA, so I never know where we will be when I need work done on the truck.

Has anyone ever had problems at the dealer with a warranty issue due to their after-market air filters? It is not practical for me to carry the stock filter around and switch it back to take it to the dealers. My ultimate goal is to lower EGTs while towing our fiver over the mountains. Eventually I also want a larger exhaust system, but I am trying the less expensive approach first.

Thanks for any input about this.

Steve

I had my gauges and AFE Stage I installed when I had an injector replaced under warranty. Dealer did not say anything about it. Air intake and exhaust seem to be overlooked by a lot of dealers. But still could be an issue depending on the problem and the dealer.

Changing the filter to anything other than a "stock replacement" will void the warranty. It is considered a modification and that is that. Technically, it may not be legal or whatever, but most of us cannot fight these things in court.

My advice, find a cubby hole to store the stock airbox and hose in. This way, it can be swapped on the side of the road if need be to restore your warranty. Once it's voided, it's gone.

If you dust the motor, then yes, the warranty will not pay for a new motor.

If you have an injector go bad, it has nothing to do with the air filter, so the warranty will cover it.

Warranties aren't voided unless the modified part contributes to the failure.

Do a search on warranties or Magnussen-Moss and you'll be busy for hours reading.

One thing- Be warned, the AFE is LOUD with the Torque Tube. I personally think it sounds great, but you're going to want a louder exhaust to offset all that whistle. As far as EGT reduction, I can't speak of any. That may be due to the fact that I run around unloaded most of the time.

If the dealer wanted to they could void a warrenty for a tire size change. the decision is usually up to the service manager, some don't mind and others despise us in the performance business. Like Dave said store the stock stuff so that you can swap went it needs to go in to avoid any issues all together.

Good question!!! I can tell you that we install quite a few kits and have never had an issue yet. There is of course always that issue that may arise. There is a bill called the Magnessen/Moss Act. That states that you cannot be denied warranty due to an aftermarket product unless that product causes an issue that can be proven in a court of law. That is no different than installing Good Year tires when your vehicle came with Michelans. If you have any more questions feel free to call. 1-800-575-0229... . Brad

Without getting into a heated debate, the Magnessen/Moss Act. does not apply to most of the members on the board here.

How can that be? They have a complete ACT for crying out loud!!?

Simple, they void the warranty for ANY reason and it is up to the comsumer to prove them wrong. Period. That means that you, I, the guy down the street that did not know any better has to shell out the money to hire an attorney, and go fight the corporate machine that has unlimited resources.

And for what? Warranty on a pump? Get real, that ain't gonna happen as most of us can't afford to fix the problem. Let alone the fact that you will get to fix it and then go fight it in court. And if you ever do see any money, by the time inflation gets done with the drawn out case, the judgement will be able to buy about 3. 2 gallons of diesel.

Preach that THEY cannot do this, THEY cannot do that, but the bottom line is, THEY can and THEY do.

Keep you stock parts in the rig and swap them out before a dealer visit. Man, that was easy! heck of a lot easier than spending your life savings trying to preserve your warranty to cover a valve cover gasket! :-laf

BTW, most aftermarket warranties are much better in this regard and I would suggest inquiring into them. :)

Dave

Thanks for all the info guys. Maybe I will try to keep the stock parts.

To those of you that made the switch and do pull heavy, how much did it affect your EGTs? Do you think it was worth the investment?

Thanks again... ... Steve

I've run an AFE a long time and love it... BUT, as some of the others stated - If the dealer finds any non stock part in your truck he could void the warranty. Most dealers could care less, but you never know. Read the warranty statement about replacement parts that came with your truck and forget the MM act unless you have more lawyers and more money than DC ;)

I did it!!!

I got called off work yesterday because of low census. So instead of going to work and making money, I went out and spent a bunch of it. I bought the AFE and Torque Tube and got it installed in about 2 hours. It would have gone faster if the instructions had said something about the press-on rubber gasket. I had the heat shield housing installed per instructions, then started wondering what the rubber gasket was for. I studied the pictures and saw where it belonged. Tried to install it without pulling the housing out of the truck, but was too tough. So, I pulled everything back out of the truck and wrestled the gasket on, then re-installed everything.

It will be a few months before this contract is over and we hook to the big fiver, but seat of the pants around town seem to indicate a reduction in EGTs already. One route I travel takes me up and down several hills. I have noticed the EGTs getting up the hill are about 100-150 degrees cooler already.

Thanks to all who gave me input. I am keeping the stock parts to swap out when I take it in to the dealer for oil changes and stuff.

Steve

PS... ... . love the new whistle!!!!!
