AFE filter

I just added the AFE air filter and housing. It does wake up the air flow as well as letting me hear a lot of turbo sound. I was wondering if anyone has insulated it somehow to keep the niose down a little while towing?

I added a TAG the same day that I installed the AFE filter. Everyone in my family has commented on how much quieter the truck is now. I have to believe the TAG is the reason for the reduced turbo noise.

How did you install it in the stock hose? Where do I buy the tag two?? here is my install

My air filter installation is the same as yours and I installed the TAG as per the makers instructions. It sits inside the hose groove and then attaches to the turbo. I am anxiously awaiting the TAG II. The maker is telling TAG owners that their units will be compatable; meaning we will not have to buy the whole enchilada again.

The answer to the noise is to run the stage 2 afe kit. Even with myHx-40,no silencer it has virtually no intake noise and the whistle is reduced by about half. A long day of pulling a trailer at 20+psi that is a welcome relief... ... ... . maybe I am just getting old

My experience too. It's pricey but the noise level is fine. I personally like the turbo sound better than before.

I too installed a TAG at the same time as the aFe. No change in sound from the stock setup. Question for someone? What is a TAG II? Haven't heard of that one.

Rip Rork @ automotive resource. I don't have his # handy but he does advertise on this site. Maybe someone else has it. He is a great guy to do business with. I highly recommend their service, plus his price was better than what I could find elsewhere.

TAG II is just one larger TAG installed up the intake hose. It is suppose to add just a little bit more of what the original TAG does. You'll use it in conjunction with the TAG I.



As far as I know I don't think they have them out yet, but should be soon. As always on this site someone else may know better.

Seems like redundancy or maybe even not thinking things out the first time around. But like you, I'll have to keep an open mind and wait and see. Might be a perfectly logical explanation.

You might want to talk to Dave. The larger one is suppose to get the air rushing straight into the other one at a faster volume than just haveing the one at the turbo. I don't know exactly all the why's and wherefore's, but it's suppose to work.

Here is a thread that Kent posted who is testing a proto-type TAG-II https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97635 You can also read more about this concept on our website. We are working on a few different configurations of the TAG-II at this time and it may or may not incorporate the use of the TAG-I. It really depends on what the final design looks like.

I just put the tag in the intake hose and it seems to quiet the whistle down a bit. Not sure about any of the other claims, just drove it around the neighborhood. also ordered the intake sock for the airfilter from Rip, what a great guy!

I bought TAG 1 based on a friend's recommendation rather than published dyno results, etc. Gauges are due in a week. Vaughn suggested I take the TAG out and see how it runs compared to when it's installed. Fair enough. I will do that and check pre- and post-installation boost/pyro at the same time. It's possible the TAG improves performance, but based on my seat-of-the-pants, I'll need something more scientific to prove it.
