New Ats On The Way

DRAG comp - EGT compairison

What's the deal on the AFE filters? I'm looking to replace my K&N and looking at the AFE mega cannon, but I'm worried about the threads I have been reading on these filters. Any help would be much appreciated.

Personal choice. Some believe the AFE is bar none, the best oil type filter, and filters better than the K&N. Others believe that all the oil type filters will allow oil and debris into the turbo and engine.

The compromise is the BHAF paper filter. Just as big as the AFE cannon, and filters like an OEM, just more CFM than the OEM. The only downside to them is they do not like to get wet.

I have an AFE cone type filter, the one just smaller than the megabighonkincannon thing, and filtration is excellent. I have had the best oil analysis silicon levels I have ever had since putting it in. Better than the Fleetguard paper and foam filter when it was dirty in the stock box with a greased seal even. Silicon on the last analysis with 7500 on the oil was THREE, yup just 3.

The AFE works.

I've had a Mega-Cannon on for over a year, and love it. I don't recall seeing any concerns on the TDR other than some don't like the increased turbo whine. I don't find it bothersome at all, but there is a noticeable difference.

They've just come out with another filter option that claims even better filtering than before.

I've had several different K&N filters on different vehicles (both drop-ins and open) over the years, and feel that the quality of the aFe is better. BTW, the filter is a lot bigger than it looks in the photos... . it's a very nice set-up.

no affiliations.

I have heard of the AFE's having too large of pin holes in the filter letting dust pass thru. Is there an upgrade kit or fix to this?

Thank's for the info, I will be purchasing an AFE. As far as the noise is concerned I don't mind... . The wife might be she can walk if she likes... :-laf

Fyrescott, The best place I could find to buy the AFE system was Mr. Bobs distributing. I think it was like $ 259 for everything including the pre-filter. I also got about 1-2 MPG better just by changing to the AFE cannon, installed in about 5 minutes and Mr. Bobs service was good too. Has anyone else found this system cheaper ? Tell us, as that was the best deal I could find.

I paid a total of $200. 12 to a company called MCGREEN off ebay. Pre oiled, new in the box, ready to go. Got it within a week after paying for it. It was like $179. 95 plus S&H and no tax. Just go to the ebay home page and type "afe" in the search box, then take your pick.

I REALLY like the sound now. :D

Sounds like I need to get an aFe filter. My K&N flows ok, but the dust around here from all the farming can be considered off road, and the K&N on Mom's aint doing so hot. Mine had a hole in the filter media from a bug hitting it. (still no dirt inside the intake tube). Stock box, and intake tubing. I plugged the hole with silicone for now; but may even order an OEM filter from Genos for now. Parts stores here want $40+ for the air filter. I have also noticed some of the aluminum (or whatever it is) screening getting worn after only 1 year. Mom is getting a new filter this week- shipped from K&N. I dont think I'll even mess with it.

ANy specs on filtering size of the new and improved aFe? I forget what it is called, exactly, but saw it in the last Geno's catalog. I'll take filtration over flow. I figure with my set up and the bigger boxes on the first gens, I should be ok, plus I have a pyro.
