Now that the temperatures are below freezing AND knowing that the AFE sucks in so much fresh air (not cold weather friendly), it's putting out a bit more smoke until the engine gets very warm.
While cleaning and re-oiling my "Cannon" for winter (bi-annual cleaning schedule) I took a small piece of aluminum sheeting and blocked off the oval opening where the stock air box pulled air from the right front fender. Two small sheet metal screws hold it in place - 10 minute job.
Now, for the winter months, it'll pull air from the warmer engine compartment - as opposed to frigid air through the stock oval opening.
Haven't had it on long enough to compare before and after - but I feel alot better knowing there's not a direct vent to the outside air.
