I've searched for info, but I haven't found anything...

Anyway, I had the AFE intake w/ PG7 and Torque Tube installed last week. It's been raining a bit around here, so I'm wondering:

Does the filter get wet while driving in the rain? It seems like there's a straight shot from the grill to the lower corner of the air box. I can see the filter through the grill. Will it not suck rain into the filter?

The other thing is that it seems to vibrate at certain rpm. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Surely one of you has noticed if there's evidence of water/slush on your AFE intake.

Has anyone noticed any weird resonance at low rpm with the AFE, like when taking off from a stop?

I know that when I took mine out to clean it I held it under the faucet to see how fast the water would come through and I was suprised how long it took. I think that the stuff they spray on there on the stuff you spray back on after you clean the filter keeps the water out. I haven’t had or even heard of anybody complaining about water getting in and getting down into the turbo some how. IMO if feel confident that the rain isn’t a problem. I do how ever just to be safe turn the engine off when I am in the car wash. Probably not much help but it’s what I know.

I've ran mine for 1 year now with no issues. I too, was concerned, but it's never been a problem. My set-up with Torque Tube does not vibrate at idle... . don't know what's up with that.

I have heard that if You use the Pre-Filter, it will wick away water droplets, reducing their ability to get to the filter media. The Pre-Filter, also, keeps the butterflies, bees & bugs, leaves etc. out of the main filter. I do not have the sound coming from my system. The silencer ring has been removed, also, and the noise level is up quite a bit. Hope this helps. Joe F. (Buffalo)

I have had the same setup for several months and have not seen anything inside the torque tube. I do not have the pre-filter sock but had thought about adding that just to help make it easier when it comes time to clean it.

Even if water did get by would this not be a free water injection system?

What would happen if water did in fact get by the filter? Is there anything that could be damaged from water?

A mechanic buddy of mine worked on a 7. 3 power joke that went through a 1' deep puddle too fast and drank some water. He ended up with three broken pistons. They went hydraulic and cracked at the wrist pins. Truck kept running but was rough running.

Thanks for the responses.

I think I'll get the prefilter just to be safe.

As far as the vibration, I can't seem to find where it's coming from.

If you load the motor a bit when taking off from a stop (not letting rpms drop under idle) there's a growl that comes from the passenger side of the engine compartment. I can't determine whether it's the torque tube, the airbox, or a part of the Banks exhaust that is hitting something. I have kicked and shaken the exhaust and hear nothing, so I figure it's the intake.

Really no big deal, just annoying at times.
