Anybody running just a drop-in replacement proguard 7 filter with the baffles and silencer ring removed? I can't afford the stage 2 intake; I might get the stage 1 with the torque tube, but I'm trying to get the most bang for the buck. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks,

Will

AFE Drop-in

WGibbs, I have had the AFE drop-in installed for quite a while now. The "Filter-Minder" still pulled down about a quarter of the way after I first installed it. I finally used a 1 inch hole saw a put about 16 or so holes in the bottom of the air box, which stopped the "Filter-Minder" pull down completely. I just recently added the "Cool Blue Hose" which replaces the rubber elbows and plastic silencer tube between the air box and the turbo, as well as removing the silencer ring on the turbo. It's pretty loud now and I have even thought about reinstalling the silencer ring back in the turbo. Some folks like it loud but it may be annoying if you tow alot. Hope this helps.

I just put an AFE stock replacement in my 05. I have a home made induction tube along with straight pipes. I took the silencer ring out like my 97 but it howls to much because of the little housing. In my opinion it didn't sound nearly as good as my 89, 91. 5 or the 97. It was alright puting around but hook a load on it and it gets to annoying. It sounded more like an air leak or wind noise to me. It most definetly doesn't sound as good as the other trucks with the bigger housings. I stuck with the drop in replacement because of farming. There is alot of times in harvest season where the hood is up running fuel tanks, washers and other items and dirt and debri flying around everwhere. I could just see the open filter being cleaned everyday like the combine.
