AFE Stage 2 *UPDATED w/ pics*

Ok, got my new system from Rip today... AFE Stage 2, PG7 filter.

First thing, outta the box, no directions or hardwear... there was only one hoseclamp in the box, and it was the one in a seperate box w/ the airfilter. So anyway, after a call or 2 to Rip, I headed to town to get the needed parts (big-rig shop here carries all the big clamps). Got that for an additional $11, and now we're ready to go... . minus one thing... DIRECTIONS!! ARRGGGHHHH... . did I mention that Rip had called AFE and explained my situation and they were supposed to call me directly later in the day to straighten things out? Did I mention that they never did?! I called them however, and the lady was very nice, and after I told her that the directions weren't on the web, she promptly emailed them to me. Not that it wasn't self-explanitory, but things just weren't going quite right.

Anyway, you have to remove two bolts on the fender to mount it, and on mine I had to also re-route the negative battery cable connector-jobber to make the fit good... also had to cut off part of the plastic battery tray, but this is in the instructions. I also had to bend the one mount that the battery ground wire connects to so it would reach the hole correctly.

Sooooo, after all that I finally got her installed. First impressions: QUIET!! OH, how nice it is to hear again! Oo. I went from Scotty II BLARING IN MY FRIGGIN' EARS, to a nice, quiet ride, with just a dash of turbo whine when rolling on the thunder. EGT's I haven't really got to check out thouroughly yet, but I'd assume they're about the same (they are in cruise). I didn't buy it for reductions in anything but noise, and so far, it has done that quite well.

Was it worth the extra $$$? I don't know just yet. Give me a couple two hour trips and I'll let you know. The real test will be in December on the 14 hour drive home, and the g/f's reaction... that whistle drove her nuts (me too, but her more-so).

Josh... all :D Oo. :-laf so far.

Snowracer, a new air filter system is the next thing to go on my truck so I am glad to hear the AFE Stage 2 with PG7 filter is quiet and also glad to hear that Rip sells them. Maybe by next spring I can come up with the $

Thanks for the info

Scotty II is sold and will be shipping tomorrow Nathan... . got you check today and will PM you a tracking # tomorrow.

Josh

Oh, took some buddy's for a ride tonight... . lets just say I had 3 guys holding on TIGHT screaming "STOP, STOP, STOP!" as I slid around a corner on a 8* uphill grade at about 75 MPH... lol... . they said before hand "lets see what it's got" and afterwards it was "holy *****!" I told 'em to give me a week and I'd let 'em feel a 20 psi 4x4 launch... it'll be even better then.

the tube seems to get REALLY HOT that close to the exhaust housing, ESPECIALLY at 1600*F. Going to get some heat-tape and wrap her up good... hope it doesn't melt... doubt AFE designed for that kinda heat.

gonna get my welder-buddy to re-weld a patch on the hole that was drilled for the S2... he's a pro, so it'll look good and be done right, and it should help the noise a touch more too.

Now, after getting rid of the that turbo whine, the engine noise is driving me nuts again! LOL... the only place I can really hear it from is under the dash on the drivers side (I assume through the grommet that all my wires go through). Will probably buy more dynamat and do the firewall up good and tight.

ISBe's won't have nothing on me! :D

So when are you going to dyno that thing Josh? Can you keep up with Dennis's pickup yet? Think you can take my tired old first gen? :-laf :-laf :-laf I dont have the twins in yet, still waiting on a couple of parts, but I bet I can give you a run for your money?

Looks like a very nice install.

Not sure when she'll get on the dyno... sometime though. I know there is one in phoenix, but I might just make a trip to Vegas and do it at DD too.

Denis should have more than me, especially w/ the water/meth, however, he normally doesn't beat me by much when racing from a dead-stop, and last time we raced I pulled him by about 2 lengths. He was heavy though and I was very light.

A week from right now I should have a report on my new transmission stuff. Denis will probably not be able to keep up then if all goes good. :D I'll run you over x-mas if you make it up our way... . we'll see what that tired ol' first gen really has. ;)

Sounds good Josh I should be home sometime for Christmas we will have to get together. Thats good to because I will have my twins in and dialed in by then.
