I'm considering buying an aFe stage 2 intake and losing the BHAF so here's my question... . Has anyone cut a hole in the side of the aFe box and plumbed it into a hole in the cowl like a Scotty II? If so where is the hole to be cut? Never owning a Scotty II, I have no idea where it is to be cut! Would this give any better results on an aFe anyway, or just a waste. BTW the noise is not a concern :D

The hole is cut in the firewall on the left sideright behind the air filter. It alows cool air from the cowel to be routed to the filter. At high speeds the air is slightly pressurized& the Scotty captures that pressure. I don't think the AFE would do that.

I have the AFE and use the scotty hole. I used to have a scotty but changed and left the hole. I use the AFE megacannon so it is not an enlosed box. You can see the hole in my engine pics. I realize you dont care about the noise but I installed some baffles in my cowl to cut down on the sucking through the vent noise. IMO you do get more air to the AFE by leaving this hole there. Works just fine for me. Good luck. :)

If you don't mind me asking, why did you get rid of the Scotty Air II? I have one installed on mine and it's like night and day when it comes to towing. Never have EGT issues and the turbo seems to spool up quicker. It's a little noisy, but I can live with it.

Just curious.

Thanks

Noise! Try 13. 5 hours straight driving from Arizona to Oregon w/ a B1 lit up the whole time and you'll want to weld that friggin' cowl-hole shut so tight that NOTHING can get through! It'll drive a guy insane! Oh, ya, I got to make that trip again here in 3 weeks... . only 4 more times though.

I never had the scotty 2 just the 1 and what snowracer said was the same for me. Way to noisy, it sounded like my interior was going to suck through the vents, just got annoying. Besides I see better results with my AFE set up the way it is.

Last time I looked the Scotty II comes with an AFE filter with option of using stock hole in wheelwell with or without hole in cowl. "Hush Mode" they call it. I want one.

Ok, I will admit, it does sound like you are getting ready to be sucked into the worlds biggest vacume cleaner, but I have hearing issue from working in the construction industry all my life, so I must not hear it that bad.

It just does not sound that bad to me, my son noticed the sound right away... My wife, no that's a totally diffrent story, she just does not get the whole diesel thing... . :-laf

I debated the whole drill the whole/don't drill the hole thing. I do so much towing in the mountain grades on my way to wheeling, and in the AZ heat thing, and it was worth the drilling. I have yet to get the EGT's over 1100 and that's flogging it up the hills.

Thanks for the reasoning. I just was not sure what the reasoning was.

Thanks,

Rob

On mine I put a baffle and dynomat in a lot of the cowel area and made the sucking noise almost disapear. The noise was to much for me before
