Posting this over here since it isnt generating much response on the drivetrain forum. .

A friend of mine has a '99 and is tired of a slipping converter. He is thinking about just biting the bullet and going for broke..... he wants to replace his stock auto trans with a BD transmission. This is a really beefed up trans throughout... . all heavy duty inside. It also carrys a very expensive price tag$$

He feels that only changing the converter and valvebody is doing it half way and the guts of the trans is still stock. He is only running a VA right now. Does anyone have any experience or comments on this? Is he wasting his money on overkill?? I appreciate any and all feedback I can give him. Thanks!!

Oh my God!!

This thread will probably get ugly!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS JUST MY OWN PERSONNAL OPINION.

Buying a whole transmission might be excessive but if he can afford it, why not. I would tell him to find himself a good transmission rebuilder and get a custom job based on his needs. Probably save a few dollars and get exactly what he needs.

Bill Kondolay at DTT is known for being upfront and honest, even if it means he'll lose a sale. I would give him a call. http://www.dieseltrans.com/ (He sells whole transmission too and he has a bunch of good rebuilders around the country)

Ther are others options out there, just call around and make up your own mind. Just be carefull it's the jungle out there... . and I just don't mean the transmission threads!;) :D

Massdiesel (508/528-6127) is fairly close to you. He has had many customers drive from North Carolina just for him to do his stuff.

Have your friend give Scott a call. Scott will treat him right.

Thanks guys!! :)

I will pass on the info. He plans on shelling out major $$$ for the BD this week. I'm trying to hold him off. Anyone using this trans other than CUMINNTSTRKN??

Trans upgrade

Before making up your mind, be sure to check out the ATS tripple lock converter. Since it can be used with stock pressures and not slip, it would be a very good choice. I installed one recently and believe me that lockup clutch WILL NOT SLIP!
