I upgraded my stock headlights with the Sylvania Xtravision bulbs. I still need more light.

There are several choices. Install new lights in the 6" cutouts in the Buckstop bumper. They sell some Hella lights that are adjustable but they're only 55 watt.

I could install lights on the top of the bumper (but I don't know if they have pre-drilled holes or not). These seem like they would be easier to aim. Or, I could do both.

Whatever I do, I will run a separate switch and heavier wire.

I have some new, 6" aircraft landing light bulbs left over from my airplane building days. Perhaps I could make adjustable brackets for the cutouts in the bumper. These light are 100 watt and have a fairly sharp beam.

For those who have Buckstop bumpers, is it possible to do an install in the light buckets after the bumper is on the pickup? Anyone have the Hella lights installed that Buckstop sells? Are they easy to adjust?

Thanks,

Bob

You can definately install the lights after the bumper is on - actually, that is the easiest way IMO. I ran the wiring before I put the bumper on and then installed the lights. Aiming them is no problem as well. I used 85 watt PIAA lights in mine. I used fogs which fill in between the truck and the low beams but you could do driving lights instead.

Thanks for the info. So, you have a choice of mounting hardware, whether they mount in a light bucket or in holes drilled in the top, horizontal part of the bumper? Most lights designed to mount in the cut-outs have adjustment?

How do you like the Buckstop rear bumper? It occurs to me that, while I'm spending the dollars for the front, I could add in a rear bumper and my "head bookkeeper" wouldn't say too much. "Rather ask for forgiveness than beg for permission. "

Thanks,

Bob

There's no pre drilled holes in the top. In the light bucket there's a slot for you to mount the lights in - they adjust just like they would in a hole in the top of the bumper. The slot lets you move it fore and aft and the light mount itself lets you adjust the beam up down or left/right. I like the rear bumper too - it's not as beefy as the front one but better than stock - and it matches well.

really nice bright lights

Check out the Lightforce brand they are the best I've ever had. I dont have a Buckstop but have them on a brush buard. The 140 series should fit in the the 6 inch cut outs , I've had the aircraft lights before and these are years ahead of those. They have an adjustable beam pattern like a Maglight flashlight .

Just some words from the new guy on the block.

BSkinner, I have the 04 truck and noticed from pictures that there are some differences in the Buckstops for the older models. Steve said there is a slot in the bucket on his, but on mine, the bucket is attached to the bumper, no slot. The fog lights I mounted go on a separate L bracket mounted to the frame and sit behind the bucket allowing lots of different mounting positions.

I just installed the bumper a few weeks ago. I put hella 500 series in the buckets and they went in & adjusted very easy. They also work very well for a fog light. They sure seem to put out a lot of light for just a 55 watt.

I installed Lightforce 240's up on top and I can't believe how well they work. I just set them half way between spot & wide beam and they turn the nite into day! I found "central4 wheel drive" to have the best deal on the lights.

You can find them here. http://www.central4wd.com/

Hope this helps.

I might have misunderstood Dorian but I thought he told me that the bumper came with the Hella's & I figured I would just install with a relay & add the 100w bulbs instead of the 55w

Nope, they don't come with lights, but Buckstop does sell them with the bumper for additional cost. You can also get PIAAs from them. Probably about anything you wanted.

What about these for the top driving lights?

BTW - I just ordred a new buckstop and they will make them with two holes in the top for lights.

I'm also putting on this winch, which I already have. ( Milemarker 75 series 12,000 lb.

And case you didn't know - the US Army know uses these on their Hummers - and are replacing their electrics:

Lightforce are very popular up here in alaska, especially with truck drivers. 4 KC daylighters on the bumper help spot the moose also.
