With all the debates over aftermarket products possibly voiding your Dodge warranty, is this a real concern? A lot of aftermarket product manufacturers say that their product will not void your factory warranty. Are these vendors lying? Here’s a simple question. How many of you have personally had a warranty claim refused due to aftermarket parts or other aftermarket products. I emphasize personally, not what you have heard, not what you think. Have you personally had a warranty claim refused. If so what was the product and does that vendor claim that their product will not void your warranty. Let’s see if there is a problem. Jeff

Try a search for void warranty.

There are quite a few horror stories about "Customer Service" with "all those modifications" and voided warranty.

Shovelhead: After glancing through ten pages of posting regarding “void warranty". I found two posts that said that they had directly been turned down for warranty repairs.

One of the post was for aftermarket wheels and one although I didn’t fully understand it had something to do with a different fuel pump. The rest had the words “void warranty" in them but no specific references to being turned down for warranty repairs. My question is quite specific. Have you been personally had a warranty claim refused due to after market parts or other aftermarket products. Jeff

My '02 CTD has 20k trouble free miles so no warranty concerns. However, my '99 chebby blew a battery and alternator dealer said it was related to electric brake box. Repairs came out of pocket. at the time the truck had 15k miles. They wanted to void the entire truck not just the electrical system. Went to another dealer and got everything 'cleaned up"

Dealers will void warranties if they don't feel like working. Not necassarily with the Corp backing. Have to shop around for a dealer that will look past the accesories.

My dealer is a putz

He said is that a 4" exhaust feeding those stacks... ... ... ... ..... Yes it is... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... well you are aware that the warrenty on your exhaust is void... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... OK I will bring the stock one from the backyard so you can keep a close eye on it, please oil the muffler bearing once a month  ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Dipstick

To me personally, no. However, I am an Edge dealer and have had 2 of my customers drive in to their Dodge dealers and had their warranties BUSTED right on the spot. Both of them involved injector pumps that failed due to fuel starvation caused by faulty lift pumps. To me personally no, but I do have first hand knowledge as I was involved in both of these problems. :(

Had the warrenty voided on the whole truck due to stage I injectors. The other performance parts in my signature were added after the warrenty was voided.

The thing that ticked me off the most was the dealer told me to put them in due to my complaints (many complaints) of low power. Long story short, warrenty voided.

I know have a truck that will pull better than most. :D

This does bring up something that I have been meaning to talk about. The TDR is getting to be a pretty good size organization. We need to ban together and use the strength in numbers to STOP this kind of nonsense. When they single out one person, he does not have a chance. But when they start taking on all of us... ... well, it could be a differant story.

I agree totally with Barry.

I tried the zone rep, DC customer service, I even tried arbitration and the response I got from arbitration was " We do not deal in warrenty related issues" I can not remember the exact quote, I could look it up as I still have all my paper work. When I read that I thought what the hell is the sence in even trying they have more time and money than I ever will, and that is exactly what DC wanted to happen.

All the above is EXACTLY why I would NEVER consider an extended warranty - all the hoops MANY of the dealers put customers thru for the REGULAR Warranty, I can imagine what they would do with an extended one...

Since I knew I was gonna "improve" my truck's performance - and chose to do it IMMEDIATELY, rather than wait X number of years to really ENJOY my truck, I just went ahead and made my mods - nothin' but :D :D :D so far, and NO regrets!

Life's to short (shorter for ME, I'm 66!) to go down the road in a STOCK truck!:p ;) :D

As far as I was concerned, the truck, along with TOTAL responsibility for failed/busted parts was MINE from the moment I got behind the wheel - and if/when it DOES break, I'll take it to a shop *I* trust to do the work RIGHT, not some shop full of high-school dropouts and poorly trained Chipanzees... ;) ;)

Jeff,

Good question. I will be watching to see what specifics come up from 1st hand accounts vs "I heard". In my case, I started to make an appointment to have my PCM updated so that my speedometer/odometer would be correct after I changed tire sizes. The service manager told me that I shouldn't do that because he would be forced to void my "entire drive train warranty" due to the larger tire size. Since I didn't think they could do it anyway, I chose not to make the appointment and haven't been back since. The frustrating part about this whole thing is that it is completely random. They sell trucks at the above-mentioned dealership with aftermarket tires/wheels/fueling boxes etc so that they can include them in the financing. Are they telling these people that dealer-installed accessories that are installed BEFORE delivery are going to void their warranty? I doubt it.
