After Market Rim Selection??

Soon it will be time to put some new sneakers on my truck and I would like to ditch the factory 6. 5" rims. I want to go with

16 x 8's and want some input on selection. Ebay has some great deals on polished aluminum which I hesitate to go with. Doesn't aluminum get nasty after some time? I would prefer chromed steel like the factory rims. I also would like a center cap that covers the lug nuts. Any recommendations or comments??

since the road dept. started spraying some new enviro friendly type of de-icer (instead of salt) it only took one winter to make a new set of aluminum wheels look like crap, I'm thinking of trying chrome plated aluminum next time. Bob

I have aluminum Weld wheels on my truck and they're polished wheels and you just have to keep a good thick coat of wax on them. Every now and then I take them off and put the stockers back on and polish them up with some Mother's mag polish and they will shine like brand new. It does take a little time but now that I bought a polishing wheel for the drill it goes a lot faster.

If you go with aluminum don't get them clearcoated just get polished mags and you can polish them up any time they start to look bad (just takes a little elbo grease). The clear coated wheels will start to look like crap after a couple years and the only way to clean them up is to use acid and remove all the clear coat and then polish them up and reclear coat them. A real pain in the back sid if you ask me.



Wheels do make a truck, trust me I've seen it first hand. Oo.

On my old truck I had chrome/ steel wheels. The only thing I did was spray them with WD-40 once a month. This kept them rust and corrosion free. In the spring, I'd just hit them with a wheel cleaning spray and garden hose. Looked good as new.

I'm in the market for new rims. Thinking alluminum. Do you think this will work on them?
