I have had something rolling around in the back of my mind for some time concerning this subject.
We all know that if you interrupt the fuel to a Diesel engine it won’t run, the starter will operate but the engine won’t start. Have a group of simple Mini SPST switches (on-off) spliced into the “fuel solenoid” control circuit, from this group of switches run a suitable multi pair cable under the dash occasionally branch off a pair of “dummies” to an inaccessible area under the dash where they are hidden. A few pair of the cable would continue through the firewall where they would also pair off to be hidden also. By mounting a couple of switches “upside down” 5 switches would give 64 switch position combinations for the circuit to be “completed”. I. E. maybe a “up, down, up, up, down” pattern would complete the fuel shut off solenoid circuit allowing the engine to operate. You wouldn’t even have to wire all switches into the “circuit”, just connect a “dummy” pair of wires to be routed under the dash/engine compartment where they would be inaccessible. A couple of SPDT (on-off-on) switches could be substituted/added to the circuit to add to the confusion. Just as long as when the switches are in the proper position the circuit would be completed.
A couple/all of the switches could be mounted in “plain sight” in the plastic cover over the steering column where the emergency flasher switch is mounted and/or a couple of switches “semi hidden” in the knee bolster.
I realize that this isn’t fool proof for the expert, but it would sure slow down others trying to hot wire the truck or pulling the ignition switch.
BTW- Does anybody know what the definition of an expert is?
In mathematics “X” is the unknown.
A “spurt” is a drip under pressure!
