My buddy has an 01. 5 2500 NV5600 manual 6 spd. with some mods (air filter intake, Muffler Elimination, Smarty, etc. ). I took it for a spin yesterday and was surprised at the clutch tension. Compared to mine, it took 10+ times the pressure to push the clutch in. Not being the tallest tree in the forest, it was almost a struggle to git-r-down sometimes. Also, I was concerned that the constant shifting in stop and go traffic would build the muscles in his left leg three times that of his right and he would walk funny ... :-laf

Anyways, we were wondering if there was a method of determining if an aftermarket clutch had been installed? He bought this used and we cannot tell from just looking at the transmission case.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well I think you have 2 options to figuring out this mystery. 1. Figure out how to contact the previous owner. Or pull the transmission and hope there is still some info on it. Neither one sounds like fun.

Could one assume that the heavier pressure plate of a heavier aftermarket clutch (i. e. 1100 lbs. torque SBC) would be the cause of this clutch being much more difficult to push in versus stock ?? Or the average pressure weight of most clutches relatively the same regardless of the torque/hp rating ??

Just curious and thanks for everyone's help.

They do get harder with ratings, thats why the big boy clutches usually require upgrades to the hydraulics. I don't know how they feel between a nv5600 and a g56 that could play a part as well.

You could pull the slave cylinder out of the bell housing. Look inside. If the pressure plate is painted blue or red, then you have a non-stock pressure plate. The SBC 3600 and 3850 pressure plates are definately heavier than stock (but still easier to use than most other DD Pressure plates on the market).
