I need to replace the EGR cooler in my 08 CC and have noticed that there are several aftermarket items available which tend to be a little cheaper, and claim to be better, than the factory supplied part. Has anyone any experience with these?

Thanks,

Ed

I'm not familiar with them for the cummins application.
For the powerstrokes, aftermarket egr coolers are available that are much tougher than stock.
Please post links to aftermarket 6.7 coolers.

Guys be real careful with the aftermarket stuff! A few months ago, I was lucky to go to a Ford class courtesy of my job, since I seem to becoming the 6.0 6.4 guy.
Here's a picture of me sitting up front- wearing my Geno's shirt (in retrospect, what ballz ) and yes, they remarked.

Anyway, one of the topics covered was cooling system issues, and I won't bore us with ford issues. They touched on aftermarket EGR coolers. DO NOT DO IT! The ford dudes did their own testing after warranty claims involving parts downstream of the cooler. They found that the aftermarket coolers do not shed enough heat. The OE cooler has an outlet temp of something like 250*F. The popular aftermarket type they tested, looking more like a tube type oil cooler, rather than a dense waffle cooler couldn't shed any heat, and passed 900*F gas into the intake, causing all kinda issues. The stock piece seems to be an incredibly efficient unit shedding all that heat in a short unit. Make sure you know what you're getting!
