I've got 155,000 miles on my truck and know I'm living on borrowed time with the stock injectors, so I'd thought get input on the different ones out there nowadays.

I run a Smarty with an airdog setup, (soon to be) DD clutch, stock turbo, so I'm looking for something fairly mild, a bit more power, hopefully mileage gain, and we tow a 16,000 lb fifth-wheel regularly.

Any advice is appreciated!

I got my parts and advise from T&C Diesel. They have a lot of knowledge regarding reman vs NEW injectors. I purchased 6 NEW stock injectors from them along with a stage 1 CP3. The new injectors along with the new CP3 were well worth the $$. Give them a call.

I have to disagree with the term "borrowed time"... Now if you said, I just want to turn the HP up... . that would be fine with me...

All of my trucks have extra fuel filters... . 10 micron primary and 2 micron secondary... All have over 120K and one is now over 300K all with the stock injectors... before these trucks we had Fords and sold most of them with 500K miles... and only one set of injectors using the same precautions with the fuel... .

Like all modern engines, we expect at least 250K mile life if not more with proper care of the fuel system... Its not uncommon to see long like in injection systems on bigger engines with proper fuel protection... .

I have KAX injectors in my 2003. They are rated approx 80hp and 120 ft-lbs torque. They are stock Bosch bodies with "improved" tips. They made a NIGHT/DAY difference when towing my 11k 5er and they didn't worsen the fuel economy.

However, I still noticed it took almost full throttle to get my 5er moving from a stop. The injectors were great at highway speeds.

Smarty cured the down low issue and now I can basically just chug away from a stoplight...

I keep reading that the best injectors out there are the ones that are rated for 50hp.

Hope this helps,

Louis

With your mods, save the money on new injectors if yours are working fine.

Go with a turbo upgrade to help cool that fuel you have now.

When you start looking at injectors later, check out Exergy Engineering.

Thanks much for the advice guys!

Very glad to hear that about the injectors, I'm pretty anal about changing fuel filters/draining the water (I have an Airdog setup), and I try to always run a mix of injector additive with a shot of good 'ole Marvel along with it.

I would agree with Joe, my injectors tanked at 150k and I used a fuel supplement on every tank due to the low sulfur fuel. It was suggested to me to run only diesel (along with scheduled filter changes) and if I wanted to add anything I could use 2 cycle oil. The mechanic in a can will soon or later cause problems.
