Stiff Shifting on 03 ? Synthetic transmission fluid?

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket company that sells just the muffler and tailpipe for the 03's? What I am looking for is kind of like the cat back systems for cars.

thanks

I ditched the OE muffler on my '03 and replaced it with a Flowmaster Delta 50 Series. The inlet and outlet were in about the same location as the OE muffler, so the installation was relatively easy. The sound is nice, and really nice and deep around 1400 to 1600 rpms. It also has a unique sound at higher rpms under full throttle. I elected to keep the OE exhaust pipe and added a 5" stainless steel tip.

Flow Improvement?

gs, Were you able to ascertain if there was any flow improvement with the 50 series Flowmaster? I assume, (ehhe), that the muff was 3 1/2" in-an-out? The Flow master is a chambered muffler, that's the reason for my question. Most are under the impression that only a "straight through" 4" muffler will move enough CFM to effect EGT. TIA for any response. Ron

I have a Magnaflow system on my truck. It is, in a sense, a cat-back system. It gave me the choice of keeping or replacing my cat with the tubing supplied in the kit.

I know AFE is making exhaust systems now too. You might want to check with them to see what they supply.

frijole :

The muffler is a 3. 50" in/out configuration. I really don't have any numbers in front of me as far as CFM's are concerned, but I could feel somewhat more of a volume of exhaust coming from the tailpipe at idle, for what that's worth. Under high rpm's at what I feel is max boost (don't have a gauge yet) you can actually hear the exhaust "rushing" thru the muffler. Maybe I could get the part number for you sometime. If you're ever near central or eastern Kentucky, you're more than welcome to listen !

GWDiesel :

I did not get the flowmaster heat shield. I've not noticed a significant increase in temps near the muffler.

I plan to post some pics later this evening in the Reader's Rigs Forum. They are not the best in the world..... I hope to take better ones later.

I had a Magnaflow stainless steel system from the Turbo back on my 2000 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab 4x4. I loved it. I just couldn't see spending the extra bucks on my '03 as it has factory 4" pipe from the muffler back. I plan to get an Edge EZ soon, and I think the rest of the stock exhaust will be fine unless I decide to plunge towards the Magnaflow again.

The Areotubine is the only one I have heard that I like. Some guys are putting on a staight though with it or two Areoturines to make it a little quiter.

You are correct we can sell just parts of the Banks systems and their new muffler design works well. The thing is, the Banks system is 4" and your stock system turbo to muffler is 3-1/2" with only the tail pipe being 4". You will need an adaptor to connect the muffler to the stock system.

I could be imagining things, but it looks like the pipe coming out of my CAT (CA truck), is actullay a 4" that knuckles down to a 3. 5" just before it goes into the muffler.

If that is the case, shouldn't I be able to use the Banks pieces or anybody's 4" pieces to go from the CAT all the way back?

Anybody else with a CAT equipped 03 done anything like this?

Kilby, how did you do yours? Is the pipe coming out of the CAT really 4" or am I missing something?

We have sent Aeroturbine kits to folks with trucks using the CAT with our Ford pipe conversion and they simply turned the CAT up side down and used the Ford pipe which is a 3-1/2" to 4" transition piece. I believe you will find it to be 3-1/2" at the connection of the pipe to the CAT. Now you may be right that it could be 4" at the CAT and the pipe is swedged down to 3-1/2" to fit the rest of the stock system, I don't know about that.

I put a Flowmaster and 4" pipe on my last truck ('01), loved the sound, but EGT went up about 150 at the manifold at full throttle. Do you have gauges??

I had a magnaflow put on the new one and love it!!!!!!

Areoturbine

I picked up the Areoturbine from Diesel Power Products up in Pasco, WA and just love it!! I did a little custom work with mine that in my opinion is going to the the next "thing!" I ordered a 4" downpipe and put the Areoturbine right at the base of the downpipe, right next to the t-case. Ran 4" pipe back to factory 4" tail pipe and picked up a nice 5" tip. Talk about SOUND!!! Inside sounds good, not to loud, but outside!! I didn't know it till we had it on the dyno and I was letting Ken (Imler Diesel, Sacramento) run the truck that I realized how good it sounds outside! Deep and Strong! Very nice. really pulled harder.
