Aftermarket Stereo Install... No Audio!

I'm installing an aftermarket stereo (Sony CR-5200) in my 99 Quad-Cab but after making all the connections (using factory-connector adapters from crutchfield), I find that I have no audio. I have the "premium" 6-speaker system.



I've checked and double-checked all the connections and they look fine. I've taken the stereo out and hooked it up to a 12V power supply and tested with a spare speaker on my workbench and was able to get audio. I reconnected the stereo and I was able to use a spare speaker and hear audio coming from it but not the factory speakers in the truck. So, I'm sure I have audio coming from the stereo.



I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

The Infinity sound system is externally amplified. You need to make sure the "amp turn on lead" is connected to the "remote turn on lead" at the deck.

Ummm... . what's an amp turn-on lead and where do I find it? I have only the 2 factory stereo connectors and a ground lead...

There should be a wire in the bundle coming out of the stereo that is the amp turn on wire. I have an older Sony (CDX C780) and the amp turn on wire is light blue. I don't have the premium sound in my truck so not sure how this works. It seams like this wire would be included in the adapter bundle you got from Cruchfield but I don't know.

I did locate a wire from my stereo. It's light blue like you indicated. Unfortunately I don't have the original docs but I assume its the one. I'm going to give it a try tonight. I was working on the stereo until after dark last night when I blew a fuse. That's when I knew it was time to go to sleep...

You can test this wire so you will know if it's the one. When the stereo is off it will be dead but when you turn it on it should be hot with 12 volts. I use this wire in mine to turn on my Rockford Fosgate amp that powers some subs.

The "amp turn on" lead is also known as a "power antenna" lead on a lot of stereo head units. In either case, the infinity amp needs a 12v source switched on the head unit to turn it on.



It happened to me on my '97 when I put a Blaupunkt into it. On that radio, it was a "power antenna" lead.

If your radio has a "power antenna" lead and an "amp turn on lead" be sure to check how they work and use the appropriate one. On some radios the "power antenna" lead will shut off if you go from listening to the radio to playing a CD and shut off your amps.



Learned that one the hard way...

You have to connect the amp lead from the head unit to the power antenna lead on the truck.



Dodge uses the antenna wire to light up the infinity system.

I'd like to thank everyone for their responses. I was able to locate the "amp turn-on" wire and I connected it to the truck's power antenna wire. Everything worked the first time I plugged it in. It's nice to have a new deck and cd changer in time for the memorial day road trip.
