I recently sold my 99 and bought an 01. My 01 had a factory radio and the 99 had an aftermarket. I switched radios before I sold the 99. The factory worked no problem in the 99 and 01. The aftermarket worked fine in the 99 but when I put it into the 01 there was no sound! Everything functioned but there was just no sound.

I switched radios back again and they worked in there original spots. Switched again and had the same problem. I wiggled wires and tried some other things but no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the factory infinity speakers? If you do then there is one wire that has to be attached diferently. Don't quite remember which one it was but a search of this site should give you the info. I had the same problem with the Infinity speakers but I got them to work fine.

If you have the amplified Infinity speakers, you have to use the antenna power lead wire from your head unit to tell the Infinity amps that the head unit is turned on (powered up) - this activates the Infinity amps.

How do I know if I have the Infinity system? I just bought the truck so I don't know if it does or not. Another thing what is the blue/black wire coming out of the harness all by itself? Thanks

"How do I know if I have the Infinity system?"

I think I remember that mine said Infinity somewhere on it.

And RustyJC is right- you have to power the infinity speakers with the power antenna lead. This may connect to the blue black wire you mentioned but I can not remember accurately.

Yeah, I've got the tweeter so I guess I have the Infinity. So what do I do with the antenna power lead? I don't which wire that is and where does it connect? Thanks for the help!

On different systems, you either hook it to the power antenna wire or a systems power wire if there are accessories to use. You can try hooking the switched power wire to the wire for the amps on the harness.

You hook the Infinity side to the Blue wire with the white stripe on the aftermarket piece. Unless it's an oddball, ALL aftermarket head units use the same color interface for their connections.

Red for switch on

Yellow for Battery

Black for ground

Orange for Dim i think

Purple, Green, Grey and White for your speakers

Blue with white stripe for remote on.

Some of the high ends have other wires for cell phone mute and road condition volume control, fancy stuff like that.

Hook up the blue wires and she should live. Good luck.

I appreciate all of the help but I am confused.

Biggy, you say to hook the Infinity side to the blue w/white. Which wire is the Infinity side?

RustyJC says to use the antenna power lead and Biggy says to use the remote wire.

Which one is right?

Do I splice these wires or do I actually cut them and hook them together? Sorry I don't understand.

All the wire to the infinity needs is power to make it active. The power wire for the antenna or systems accressory power or even splice the switched power wire to the blue wire for the infinity amps. On the harness from the truck, the blue wire is the lead for the amp. Supply power to this and you should get sound.

on the harness for the truck you'll see a BLUE wire, hook that to the BLUE W/WHITE STRIPE wire from the harness on the radio. Usually the BLUE W/WHITE wire will have a little tag on it stating it's purpose. like your case it'll say ANT on it. if you not then follow directions above and you'll be alright.

Sorry about the confusion.

Ant/Remote are the same thing. I've never been treated to a power antenna so I call it the remote wire because it "Remotely Activates" other devices such as a power antenna or amplifiers in your case. Sometimes people run screens from them.

It's just a power source that comes on with the CD player and not the key.

maybe someone can advise....

I have a question. Today I lost left front & Left rear speaker and left subwoofer ( I think the left sub is not working) in my truck.

I checked all connections and they are tight. Everything still looks like the day I wired it.

Headunit is an Alpine CDA-D857 ( 5 years old and fairly $$$)

Amp is a 1000 Watt 4 channel Rockford. I don't remember the p/n. (Fairly $$$ too)

Would the most likely cause be the headunit? Or could the amp do this?

Any simple things I could try to narrow it down?
